I rode out from Birmingham to Warwick to visit my folks who were there on their caravan.
Looking at the stats on Endomondo I managed 10km in 34 mins on a single speed Pompino, this has got my mind thinking - could I do a sub 30 min?
Would I need a new bike to do this?
Would I like to give a Time trial a go?
Is this how you get seduced by the dark side?
download the gpx from endomondo and upload it to strava.
that will be the first step into the abyss 🙂

If ever there was a sign that you need a road bike - this is it.
You need to jump before you come to your senses.
Your folks have a Caravan in Warwick? That well known sea side resort...
You did 6 miles in 34 minutes? 5 point not very much miles per hour?
Am I missing a punchline?

Get yourself entered into a 10 mile TT. Feel how much it hurts, swear to never do it again, then get yourself entered into the next one.
I did my first ever 10 mile TT on a fixed gear town bike. Came in at just over 30 minutes. Hated every under geared minute of it at the time, and then started training so I could go faster next time.
Metric and Imperial fail 😀 It was 10 miles in 34 minutes.
They have a tourer caravan and are staying on Warwick Racecourse at the site there, which has the bonus of a race meet later this week.

Your maths is out a little.
10 mile TT = evens.
Yes.
Why not, might as well, always a good move.
Yes.
6 (miles) divided by 34 (mins) = 5.6666666 according to my Busicom BS-7938CX Dual Power 8 Digit calculator.
Ahhh, should be 6.4 miles = 10K.
It now says 6.4 (miles) divided by 34 (mins) = 5.3125.
Bin the 10 mile TT = evens idea disco. You've got no chance.
Weird though it is - and the French do call it the English disease - byut time trialling is one of the most accessible ways into "racing" a bike. It's you, the road and a clock. Which is why it's also known as the race of truth.
A friend of mine rides 10 miles in a smidge over 19 minutes.....

If he did ABOUT 6 miles in ABOUT 34 mins then surely he must have been doing ABOUT 12miles an hour no??
To correct your maths - (60/34)*6.4 = 11.29 mph
I is fick.
10 km in 34 min. On a singlespeed. Was it up the Tourmalet? You'll need to (insert Rule 5 here) if not. I pootled in on my fixed road bike at a gentle 15 mph this morning. Club ride this evening will be at 19 mph. And I've not been brave enough to time trial yet.
If you want to retain the one gear for all ethos, I suggest making it fixed, you'll find you go faster as the urge to coast is pernicious.
EDIT: just read your update 10 miles in 34 min is pretty good. Gears will get you faster. But fixed is still great.

Does your common sense not tell you that if he rode 6.4miles in 34 minutes then his average must be around 12mph.
17.6mph isn't that fast though.
I was joking (or wuz I?)
