So it's not a fancy narrow wide chainring but it's got big teeth. I've got a Zee shadow+ mech - can I get away without putting my 1.x MRP chain device on. Anyone else running this setup?
I'm running a steel on one with shadow plus and no chain device for singletrack/woods riding/crashing.
My wheels don't generally leave the ground and it's worked without fault
I have that exact chainring and mech combination on a hardtail. The chain came off enough to be annoying without a guide, but even with an MRP 1x guide I've had the chain come off and jam in the guide occasionally. This is quite likely to flamboyant riding/crashing on certified gnar trails though. I should probably just be more sensible.
I'll try a N/W ring with no guide next and see how that goes.
Ok - reckon I'll put the guide on for now and maybe take it off when I can stretch to a NW ring.
I was early last year with my signature bash ring and a Hope inner guide. Lost the chain twice in two rides! Weird because I'm not sure I ever lost it with an N-gear and a Hope alloy singlespeed ring. Went thick-thin straight after and only lost a chain twice in 18 months, both when pushing uphill in the mud.
We seem to be out of sync on riding at the moment - are you racing QECP?
Update my post above. My on-one chainring with a shadow plus wasn't enough to hold the chain on when things got bumpy (hardtail). Ive swapped to a Superstar Narrow/Wide and it seems to be holding the chain well
Narrow/Wide with no guide is far more effective than chainguide + not narrow/wide ime.
Running the On One SS ring with bash and granny, not that I ever use the granny, and no guide. Works great and yet to drop the chain with the Zee mech.
