anyone any experience of fitting a regular smoothie headset, cups fitted in frame fine but the lower race doesn't seem to want to locate in the bearing and there is a gap of 2 - 3 mm between them, I am assuming it sits tighter than this - do I need a bigger hammer? any fitting advice?

cheers

Done the top bolt up yet to draw it all together (ensuring stem bolts aren't tight at the time of course)?

Also, make sure the lower bearing is the right way round, with angled side facing out. Should come fitted properly, but you never know.

Certainly the original smoothies were a little out in tolerances and were difficult to fit and also have the race and bearing sit together neatly.

I still have one fitted to my shopper bike out here in France so I can go and see if I ever got it to sit correctly.

There were threads back in the day. I think even Mr Richards popped up..

Cheers Stoner, Looks as though it is a "feature" of the headset, doesn't seem to be any play so may as well run it as is and see what happens.
