So just why did they stop making them ?
Got a few other bikes, but chose to ride the 29er Scandal around CYB yesterday & had a blast. All the way around I'm thinking, why don't they make these anymore ? It's by far the best h/tail for the money I've ever rode....better than a lot more expensive ones as well tbh....
More worryingly is,if it ever breaks or gets stolen, where will I find another one ?
I too find it bizarre they killed off the Scandal: sub 4lb well designed frame for £200ish...bargain IMO. Really like the raw finish on my Scandal 29er frame too
Suppose the Parklife fills the gap on the 29er side but not as versatile as the Scandal again imo
Love to get a 14" 26" Scandal for my son but they're pretty rare
Sad to get rid of mine but had to for space brilliant bike, got a Lurcher now & gotta say equally impressed
I heard (from a bloke in the pub)that were lighter than the carbon bikes that were being introduced, and had to go as they were rather showing them up.
APF
Aluminium never seems very sexy
But in my experience makes great bikes
My raw 26er is just such a great bike.

Hmm, interesting & would most likely appear to be the only reason they would drop it ..
i've had two and loved them.
i would think they stopped making it because a carbon frame makes them more money
Having owned a 21" Scandal V2 and Lurcher I can honestly say the Lurcher is better hands down.
Whilst the Scandal is very cheap and light it was extremely harse to ride, the Lurcher smoothes out all the trail buzz and leaves you feeling much better after a hard ride.
I never weighed the frames side by side but did have them both in hand and the Lurcher felt lighter to me.
Just my opinion obviously...
What else is there out there that's as happy on a trail, bike touring or commuting and is sub 200?
Only had mine for 6 weeks before it got stolen. Wanted a raw one but on one said they wouldn't be getting any more in. Don't get it, they are still making steel inbred's so why discontinue the ScanAl? I don't want a fugly carbon one with a push fit bb.
It was truly a bike of the people. Bring it back.
I had a love/hate relationship with mine, because I believed them when they said it'd work well at 130mm travel, when actually it was a total dog with that much fork. But once I figured that out and shortened the fork, it was great.
The really surprising thing for me was how comfortable/compliant it was, I still believed in that "steel is real" pish but riding it back to back with an Inbred I'd have sworn the scandal was steel and the Bred was alu. (that was a V1 scandy scandal though, the later ones might be different)
Maybe they'll bring it back with 650b wheels and a 44mm headtube.
My ride to work bike is a Scandal and the whippet, which was the upgrade xc fast hardtail isn't anywhere as good as the scandal. There maybe a swop over there soon. Wife has a 14 inch Scandal, which we got off the classifieds here, but was lucky as loads of people wanted it. Built as a singlespeed with carbon rigids and it weighs next to nothing.

Don't agree with any of that TBH(well other than it was cheap),rode mine for 43 miles Saturday around CYB(Tarw,Dragons & MBR) & was amazed at just how comfortable it was.Usually take a FS for welsh stuff & was expecting to be pretty beat up by the end of the day,but felt fine...
Mine's going nowhere. A very light SS at the moment and much fun.
Glad I got mine when I did, must have been one of the last batch of v2 29ers. Built up as an xc racer for some big wheel toe dipping and it does the job rather well.

I guess it depends what you are comparing it to. I like stiff alu hard tails so seems ok to me.
Reckon it looks nicer than the On One carbon jobbies too. Here's mine... (now a bit lighter having replaced parts bin post and saddle)
Notice the US site still has them in stock if anyone is desperate for one.
