Check out the website news today. No more current spec Inbreds will be produced. They'll all be to the new CEN (heavier) standards in the next batch.

Buy a classic while you still can!

ordered one, no intention to build it yet, just sit on it cause I reckon it might be worth a bit when the new CEN chunky versions come along 🙄

just for the record, we don't know anyone who has in the line of sensible trail/xc riding ever folded the downtube or broke the headtube off an inbred do we? What a shame to have to monkey about with that and i guess quite a few other great frames. 🙁

I have fatmuthahubbard's shiny new green inbred in my dining room until his mother in law goes home 😆 and it looks just lovely for how little he spent on it.

Interesting emphasis on the frames being steel in that On One news piece- the new ones going to be aluminium then?

-broke in half mid gnarly move, or cracked and discovered at the next bike wash? I mean isn't the CEN safety stuff primarily about preventing catastrophic failure of the frame whilst it is still moving? And yes, it did sound a bit like a 'Royal We' didn't it?
The lovely thing about steel inbreds being that if it is the creak/crack discovered during/after ride, you can just get it welded for not much money and carry on. Or buy a new one.

Confused. I'm no engineer but do you think they'll just throw +300gm's onto the frame? You don't think they might adjust/improve certain areas? They would have had to sit down and relooked at the design. I dont see it as a bad thing.

Ps. I cracked a Summer Season and I'm no gnarly dude. I think the CERN is a good idea if it helps IMPROVE the product.

From January 1st there will never ever be any more steel inbreds in its classic state , a beefed up sturdier 2010 CE beating evolution model is coming around April but if its classic springy steel that rocks your boat then nows the last ever, final, never to be produced again to get a STEEL Inbred frame.

I read that as the inbred will no longer be steel...?

You mean writing on the website with a bottle of Scotch next you?

Suppose its different from previous where you'd get the standard two replies (literally one word):

'Weeeeeeeeee'
and
'18"'

And thats it.

It's not as though the old Inbred's exactly svelte, or even particularily springy... I can understand why people kept buying them but it's not exactly the end of an era, I reckon that particular era ended quite a while ago and nobody noticed.

Northwind- good point. A great chance to refresh. If they just add a thicker/bigger diameter down/top tube then they've screwed up. Doubt that they would be that lazy though. I bet they look at the butting etc etc and up the price thus leaving the older frame as a pub/hack frame thus upsetting all these speculators 😉

On the OO website, the white non-slot dropout ones mention that a) they're pearl white and b) that the take V's as well as discs. I'm pretty sure the latter's not correct (in that they're all disc only now?) but has anyone got one that has a better pic than on the site please? My old white DN6 sliding dropout one had very flat white paint.

Not that I need (another) one, but I have been dithering a bit about a 'proper' vertical dropout one instead of running the slot drop green one with gears. Hmmm...

Or I could just wait for a carbon one.

Gonetothehills - received my classic inbred yesterday and it still has v-brake mounts. Colour isn't particularly pearly, but colour perception is a funny thing...

Btw, I'm going to run it ss but find a tensioner a lot less hassle that slot dropouts even though it isn't nearly as pretty.

Thanks MM - that makes sense and I just got a shout from On One Towers to the same end. The slot drops do work fine in SS mode with their chain tugs, it's just a bit of a hassle with a mech (especially a shadow one), but then I don't plan on getting too many punctures... famous last words! Enjoy the build - and stick some pics up when you're done please - look forward to seeing that one.

No worries gonetothehills. Yeah, I agree slot dropouts work fine, but this time around I thought we'd go for the easy/ugly option. Should finish the build in a few days. Cheers!
