Reckon this looks ok for the money? Sliding rear dropouts, clearance for 2.8 tyres, Sram GX Eagle groupset. Havent ridden MTB for some time (mainly ride gravel and road bikes) but fancy some front squish for the bit of the Ridgeway local to me, and maybe the local woods. Fancy singlespeeding it in winter. Thoughts?

There was a bad batch of them and some frame sizes had issues with the cranks rubbing against the chainstays. Shame, as on paper they look great.

I avoided and went with a big dog instead.

Doesn't look bad but with the second hand market like it is I'd have a good look around that first.

That caught my eye in their email too. They're doing the usual Planet X naughty thing of putting a cheap heavy SX cassette and chain on their "GX groupset" bike (but they'd do until they wear out), and the tyres are very cheap, non-tubeless, wired things (which I'd bin immediately).

You can amend the build and upgrade items you don't want.

Personally I always think it's better value to get the bike and sell the bits you don't want and replace with the bits you do want. Rather than what px have and the price they the upgrade cost at.

...still procrastinating. Another point of confusion is that the Rockshox Judy Silver is available as a £100 "upgrade" over the 35 Gold RL fork. Id thought the 35 Gold RL was the "better" fork, no?

Same spec as my big dog was, wheels are ok, tyres are crap, grips and saddle are cheap and uncomfortable.

Gearing is very crisp.

I found the forks crap, with dangerous (in my opinion) damping performance when riding at speed on very rough trails, they’re not the worst fork I’ve ever had but I’d decided after 3 rides to swap those.

otherwise it’s a solid spec for £900, I’m a serial part swapper but I had no reason to swap the wheels, bars or stem when I did, contact points and tyres were all that really needed changing to make it a passable ride.
