Looking at an option for a lightish cx/ gravelroad bike ( never owned a road bike) so looking for something I could build up cheapish and would be stable and generally enjoyable to ride. I like my stooge so much but long road miles are interesting....

So looking at a second hand dirty disco so

Are they any good?
What size for a 6ft 93 kg rider? No weight limits I hope?
What is the biggest tyre I could run?
Can I use a flat MTB bar?
Could I use some old magura Louise disc brakes?
Could I use my old MTB crankset with a 48 outer?

All thoughts, pictures and help welcome!

Why not just buy an MTB ?

Got three....And fancied something different and possibly quicker ...

You are correct I could adapt a 29er .....But where is the STW fun in that?

Dunno, but if you have 3, just get a set of Aero type CX forks for one and stick on some Hybrids... why would the DD be quicker exactly ?

I've got a Dirty Disco. I wouldn't say it's light (heavier than my 29er race bike), but it's great for offroad. Feels very sturdy, I've taken it down some pretty rocky MTB trails on 40c tyres with no problem and it's also good for long road rides. Only problem I've had is on of the screw fixings for the bottle cage mound coming loose but nothing I can't fix with some glue. Can't see the point in putting straight bars on it. You'd be better off with a 29er frame in that case.

I have a Dirty Disco as a Road/Commuter/CX bike and have found it to be great (no mudguard mounts though).

I originally had it set up with a flat bar but now have wide road drops with Shimano hydraulic discs. It was great with a narrow bar for commuting but now I do more road/cx the drops work well. Have run it with 28s but I expect you could go much bigger.
