Am having to get a correct diameter dropper as running a spare inside a shim isn’t working out.
Why is that? I'm planning on a 30.9mm reverb with a 30.9 to 31.6mm shim in place, as that's what I have.
@steve_b77 it may be fine for you but I had that same setup. The shims have a lip to stop them migrating down the inside of the seattube. It may be my fault but what seems to have happened is the force of dropping the saddle each time (with body weight) has gradually 'flattened' the lip and the shim slowly migrated down the tube (even with carbon paste and correct torque). Eventually, post started slipping and that is when I noticed distorted shim. I think it is because the 30.9/31.6 shims are so thin perhaps?

the clearance is a bit tight with a 2.4 Conti Trail King.
I have 2.4 Continental Mountain King's on Hunt 30mm Trail Wide wheels and there's good clearance at the back - around 10mm each side.
Just been for first proper ride on the Big Dog. It’s muddy out. Pic above is 2.4 mountain kings on the stock wheels.
I’ve swapped the shifter and derailleur for XT - about 100 times better than the SX.
The bike feels both planted and fun/flickable. It’s fun to pop of a trail bump or root.
Also enjoying a hard tail climb again - managed to do the Box Hill bridle way climb in one, which I haven’t done for a while and also managed some things I usually struggle with.
Does anyone run one of these 27.5+? Currently have a Scott Scale 710+ which doesn't really light my fire. Used to have an early Ragley Piglet, wondering if the Big Dog with the kit off the Scott would work nicely.

Not quite done, but I couldn't resist taking her for a quick brakeless ride in the street. Tire clearance on the non driveside with this TK 2.4 is comparable to jimdubleyou's photo posted earlier. There is ample space on the driveside so I could get the rear wheel re-dished. I probably won't bother because I'm borrowing these wheels from another bike. The front tire is a DHF 2.5 WT. Both rims are 27mm internal width.
Initial riding impressions just based on pedaling and bunnyhopping on and off kerbs. It feels balanced and responsive. I'm glad I didn't cut the fork steerer tube too short - I've got a big stack of spacers under the stem and the bar has a 30mm rise.

First real trail ride. I haven't ridden a hardtail in years! I spend most of my time on full suspension trail/enduro bikes. I'm really impressed with the Big Dog. The bike seems very balanced. 20psi in the rear Trail King 2.4 and 18psi in the front DHF 2.5 WT. Pedaling feels snappy and efficient. Glad the seat tube is fairly steep. Traction is very good when climbing out of the saddle. I'm running a 40mm reach stem with 800mm bars and tons of stack. Fork is a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 130mm and so far I'm very happy. There's quite a bit of carbon bling on this bike, including the rims. Total weight is just over 13kg (including pedals).
Did anyone else see that big dog frames were £199 with an extra 25% off code late last night, or did I imagine it? Was it a case of late night post pub bike shopping or just planetx being planetx.

You didn't imagine it, but it is just the small orange version on offer. They sent an email out in the week with an offer they have on certain frames as they have too many in certain sizes, and the Big Dog is included in that offer.

I could have sworn the when I selected the medium it was also £199. Did the email mention the extra 25% off or was that a mirage?
25% off was definitely there as i was looking at the boot zipper but I could not justify it when my size was 50% more expensive than the rest.
with on-one measurements / geo charts sometimes being a bit off, is there a chance the rear might be slightly more tukt than 444 🤷♂️

They should've done, they're all just bogo cage bolts anyway
Mine didn't have the rack mount ones, though in fairness I hadn't really thought about it and figured they will help as drain vent holes
Mine didn't come with any bolts - I used spare disk rotor bolts to tidy up the holes.

I reckon I'm close to my ideal setup. Switched the rear Trail King 2.4 for a Maxxis Dissector 2.4 with a DHF 2.5 up front. The Dissector is not as bulbous as the TK. Weight distribution (front to rear) is better and I can bunnyhop and do short manuals OK. I like my bars really high! Glad I didn't the cut fork steerer too short. 40mm reach stem is great - the steering is responsive but not too twitchy. I'm really happy with this bike.

How is the Big Dog buyers club getting on? In my case I initially built the bike up with a mix of mostly second hand parts. During the course of a few particularly muddy jumpy rides I destroyed the rear jockey, chain, rear wheel and so now it is virtually a new bike{bar the fork, front wheel, handlebar, grips} I am not a particularly nimble rider. I bought an xl when the size guide suggested large.So its a bit like Desperate Dan's bike. My shed was broken into and 3 bikes stolen. Including 2 full suspension bikes. Not the big dog though as it was in the garage being rebuilt after another ride. Now all I have is the big dog. I find it a very stable bike. Very forgiving. Lighter than my old 2019 Norco Fluid full suspension bike. Very long which is what I wanted. Standover in xl is very tight but has not been a problem in real life. Going over steps, jumps is great. Steering is based on using body english to a greater extent than say a older geometry bike. Bottom bracket is low enough that I clip the 170mm crank arm once a ride on a high root. So all in all I call the big dog a bargain:)
I'm enjoying mine but it's ended up spectacularly rear end heavy somehow. I blame the rim
I'm still enjoying midweek hardtail rides on my Big Dog. Continuing to mess with the fork setup (pressure, tokens, etc). I might try swapping the airspring from 130mm to 140mm. This will give me more stack and make it easier to lift the front end.

First ride proper ride today. Wet after some thundery heavy showers yesterday afternoon. Really impressed with the bike. Feels really balanced, still feel it rides lighter than its heft suggests. Most impressive thing was it’s handling. It just leans over so nicely into corners. Ideal for the twisty woodland singletrack which is my local riding. It’s a lot of fun.
One practical thing if it helps anyone, I accidentally bought a non-boost 32t slx crankset from Merlin as it was cheap and forgot about it being boost. It fits, works perfectly and gives a lovely chainline on my 1 x 11 setup.
What size frame did everyone go for? Any regrets?
5’ 9” and Medium. Happy with it.

Just bought the orange frame for 150 going to build it up Friday,size medium,sold my tarn frame as it was to long at 465 reach even with 35mm stem at 5.8,the frame is lighter than the tarn frame and seems better quality tbh

I ordered a big dog and it arrived Monday. Fitted rear wheel to check for clearance as I know some have found it tight and the wheel is about 3mm out towards the non drive side (leaving about 3mm clearance on a 2.35 flow snap on 30mm rim).
Anyone else had similar? It could be the wheel which is from another bike but that sits centrally in the other bike.
Had same problem with rear wheel not central,brand new wheels from superstar,for the price I paid for the frame,150 I'm not overly concerned and I doubt il notice it,but the frame is out of sync at the rear,maybe that's why they cheap?The bike seems to ride well enough,the front end feels quite low even with 140mm debonaire pikes and 20mm atlas bar
I've just built my big dog today. Im unsure on what fork length to go with, I'm running pikes and have 120 - 150 airshaft. What's everyone running fork length?
For those of you who bought a compete bike which cable guides are you using for the dropper? I'm guessing it's the ones located pretty much on the side of the down tube it just makes the cable routing a bit odd once you crossover to the bars.
Mega tempted by one of these, As much as I like my DeeDar I just dont really gel with 650b. These seem a logical step up and a bargain!
First spin on mine yesterday. It was pretty steady at Lady Cannings, so nothing too radical. Never been before but really enjoyed it. The red is surprisingly fun and I reckon both the red and blue would be great fun for the kids too.
I was pleasantly surprised by the big dog. Lots of fun. Felt nice and nippy. A lot easier to pop off stuff and lift the front end than I thought it would be as it has a decent reach and longer stays than I’m used to.
Might be nonsense but it seems to have a bit more give in the frame than the 901 which was the last hard tail I had and it wasn’t a chore at all swapping between the Cube Stereo 150 and this.
Glad I went with 140mm forks. Doesn’t feel too slack at all.

I find the sizing of On-One/PX frames don't fit me well. I have short legs (so my wife says) for my body length. I prefer the reach of the large frame and seat tube length of the medium frame to get a decent dropper post in.
I have an old size eighteen inbred (which I loved at the time) the 16 was too short, it now seems very short reach wise in comparison to today's more modern frames. The seat tube length was fine at the time when we didn't have dropper posts.

You see being at the opposite end of the scale it seems 95% of manufacturers seem to have forgotten 5'9" isn't large and that seat tubes are now so short that I'm waiting for someone to come up with a 250mm dropper in order to let me get my saddle out of the way.
As it's my xl big dog isn't too bad it still has 60mm of post sticking out below the collar but seems to put the saddle out of the way well enough at that.
My evil otoh with the same length dropper has 80mm of post showing and somehow ends up with the saddle pushing me forward on steep stuff. Not just a function of length I admit but it just doesn't seem to cross a lot of designers minds you might not have the rails resting on the top tube. The big dog seems to deal with that.
I’m 5’7’’ with 29’’ inseam and find the medium fine. Have a 170 Highline dropper with an inch to spare.
Anyone have a solution for replacing a derailleur hanger on a Big Dog. Got a new bike not long ago, box was in a state but it built up ok. Hanger broke on the first ride. So I ordered one... turned out their stock was false and they had no stock. Over a month later still no sign of stock. If anyone knows of another that would fit or one they don’t need?

Did you ask PX if they've one that fits?
TBH hanger's are 'fifth wheel spares' and anyone buying a new bike should always order a spare hanger with it. And if they can't supply a hanger with the bike, walk away (whoever the manufacturer is).
Have you got the broken hanger?

I agree with intheborders - I've nearly had frames written off for want of a hanger. It was a CX bike from ribble. Discontinued model. Broke the hanger and went to order another one but there was nothing and I couldn't find an alternative. Ended up with a few phonecalls and they eventually went out into the warehouse and salvaged me a "used" one from a broken frame they had.
I did order one and pay for it... turned out the stock was false and they refunded me... lot of good that does!
Requested email when restocked but no answer there. Hopefully can match something up... surely Big Dog wouldn’t be discontinued already?

Not the ideal bike but I wanted a steel bike for a 2500km trip I am heading off on in summer... not many XL sizes bikes available this season!
I've been using mine for commuting mainly woth some carbon rigid forks and it's absolutely fantastic. I think it will be a great bike for a big Summer trip!
