Has anyone built a 456 for a bit of street / urban riding in mind - if you have what's your build specs and how do you get on with it? Cheers.... 😆

have not done it but small frame, big semi slick tyres + short forks could be quite nice.
Not done it but long frame, long chainstays, slack headangle will definitely be quite shite.
Get a bmx, or if you have to use 26inch wheels at least use a proper street/dirt frame.
get a summer season and run really short rigid forks... huge tyres and and a big bar/short stem combo. and 1x9 obviously and it'll be the funnest thing since fun things began.
Only with long forks, which you would not want for street riding anyhow.slack headangle

It'll work, and if you have the frame then go for it.
I thought perhaps you were buying new, in which case I'd completely avoid the 456 and buy a proper frame intended for street riding.
if you've got the frame do it. it won't ride brilliantly but you'll have a laugh.
I used to have a gt tequesta (the bike of many builds) which had slicks and a 40mm stem. possible the worst street bike ever but i enjoyed it.
Anything to get through the winter gloop and improve my riding & keep fitness levels up etc

Built this up with the stuff i had lying around, after i pinched the good bits to fit into the heckler.
18" 456 with carbon rigids
1x9: xt cranks with 40t single ring and e13 chain guide, 11/32 rear cassette
Wheels and brakes etc all stuff from an old gt avanlanche.N
arrow conti slicks.
It is really fast, but quite heavy. 40t 11/32 is just right for me on the road, i have quite a steep hill on the way home from work but i manage more or less.
Great fun bouncing over kerbs and not having to worry about delicate road wheels.

Slack and long is generally not that good for street/urban. Then again if you already have the frame then you may as well make use of it - should still be fun 🙂

I don't need it, my hardtail GT with semi-slicks is a better commuter as it's geared, but that has a harsher ride being alu.
This is much more comfortable because of the flex in the steel & just fun to ride!
It's useless in places where a proper BMX cruiser would be fine because it's quite long in the cockpit, so not really chuckable.
Sometimes I swap out the chainring for a smaller one & use it for off-road duties.
do you mean jumping down steps, generally abusing around the streets? If so then it will be perfect. Except that you can't run single speed without a tensioner but that is not a huge problem.
If you mean for trips to the shops/pub and as a back up bike then not ideal but will roll well enough with semi-slicks and probably be lighter than a £100 hybrid that is supposed to do the same trips.
You can also fit paniers to the 456 and turn it into a tourer. With the extra weight you won't notice the extra 1lb of the frame over something that costs 2-3x as much.

Yes, that's exactly what I had in mind
i would prefer to get something like a Brand x jump frame etc. Wouldn't run an inbred for that.
I use my 456 SS for what you are referring to - general street abuse.

It has 160mm forks, 27 speed, Halo twin rails tires.

OP if you have a 456 already then yeah go for it.
You could always swap for a proper steel jump frame but then if you want to use it for winter trail riding the 456 would be better.
Just make sure you fit some strong wheels and probably a fixed tensioner or a crank based tensioner if going single speed which I expect you are on a bike to abuse around town.
