Hi,

I have just brought a 456C .Medium Frame.
It has straight steerer on it currently but I want to fit some Rockshox Reba 120mm tapered forks .

I've been told the 456C can take a tapered fork but will they just fit or do I need some parts to fit?

Some insite please ???

Someone said I just need a crown race to fit the tapered fork?? True/false??

Thanks

Yes the C456 has a tapered head tube so you can fit tapered forks.

The bits you need will depend on what headset is currently in the frame...
If it's a tapered headset with a reducer crown race then you just need a new crown race
If it's a straight headset then you'll need a new lower cup / bearing and crown race

If you're not sure, drop the forks out and post a pic of your current crown race & lower headset.

Thats a reducer crown race, so the headset bearings are already big enough for a tapered fork.

So all you need for a taper fork is a new 1.5 lower crown race (the silver bit in the last pic).
You'd need to know what headset it is to get one with a seal like the existing one has.

Or you could go generic, and ignore the sealing, in which case you'd need to check the bearing to find out what angle it is (36 or 45deg).
Most headsets these days are 45deg.

Thanks for the reply , how do I find out what headset it is ?? Or choose a generic race?

I need new bearings too so that might change things up??

I had a c456 and used a reducer headset just like that. My headset was a cane creek.

To find out exactly what is in yours already could be tricky. You could remove just the lower bearing and that might have a logo / brand. But - quiet probably will not.

Or you could just order up a whole lower assembly - that would include the race and the lower bearing - and then you are set to go. Assuming your upper bearing is still ok.

Have a look on the Cane Creek website - they have a headset finder by brand / model / steerer type - and they also sell uppers and lower assemblies separatly. I find them to be good quality. Or once you find the type from Cane Creek (eg ZS55 or whatever) then Hope most probably do a spendier version.
