You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Well having seen a few shots of the Tour riders on board cameras now I'm a bit meh about on board footage. To that end I've not watched anymore feeds and think it's just a bit of a waste of time.
All I see Is a rideout with mates, looks like pretty much what I see when out with the lads..
So me ? Meh, not bothered..
You ?
Liking it myself. Never done any group riding so find it impressive to watch how they can all ride so close, and how badly things can go wrong if someone makes a mistake.
Guy in the white and blue stands this one up pretty well.
Really liking it, see's what riding as a pro is actually about, that and the mechanic cam from Orica was great.
Having ridden MTB and road (obviously nowhere near the standard of the riders on Le Tour) a couple of things are apparent:
1. it takes time to learn how to ride in a group
2. mountain bikers don't know how to.
The second really is a consequence of the first, blasting down technical singletrack is great for bike skills but rubbish for group skills. A couple of years ago when the local club was starting up again the distance between bikes was at least a wheel in one direction and about the width of a set of handlebars in the other. Over a period of about six months those dropped to less than 10cm as our understanding and perhaps more importantly trust in each other grew.
Of course the peloton has the advantage that they are on closed roads so there's fewer unexpected hold ups.
As for the footage, I think it comes in to its own when there's an incident especially one that the main cameras don't pick up. At the moment I don't think they allow live broadcasting of on-bike footage though that may change.
