My BBC live text still has this up!

Tony Martin is home, holding his advantage over Chris Froome. Now, here comes Bradley Wiggins, turning towards the finish line... what will the clock say? It's good news... great news in fact. he is more than 40 seconds faster than Martin, and is the fastest man home.

That just leaves Fabian Cancellara to arrive, but he was more than a minute slower at the last time check. Barring something incredible, gold is in Wiggo's grasp.

Feel sorry for Froome, again! In any other year he would be heralded as the legend he probably deserves to be seen as!

not only that - at least now he will be remembered as the winner of the 2012 TDF and 2012 olympic TT - and not as the british press love to do remembered as the guy who lost the olympics.

so who's better? redgrave for 5 golds or wiggins for 7 medals?
Seems to be some differences of opinion

If you take into account everything else i think Wiggo wins by a mile simply because of the TdF win.

If you do it by points 3 gold 2 silver 1 bronze then wiggins has 16 points and Redgrave has 16 points.

TDF is a big plus but redgrave has won a lot of WC stuff too.

(mind you redgrave has retired wiggo still got a few years yet hopefully)

Only reason I ask is the TT coverage were saying greatest british sportsman, cut to BBC1 who said second greatest behind redgrave.

How many events is Hoy competing? Is it just the Keirin or pursuit too?

Yeah. Never thought I'd see the day that we'd have huge crowds of people cheering on a bike race in the UK and cyclists on the front covers of the tabloids for all the right reasons. Brings a lump to me throat.

Let's hope some of this good feeling trickles down into more money for cycling provision for ordinary UK folk.

If only we could have Ned Boulting doing the post race interview. I'm off to the hospital now to get my stomach pumped out. I decided to take a drink every time Hugh Porter got a name wrong.

Redgrave got his 5 golds over a longer period of time so that puts him ever so slightly ahead stil IMO, only the width of a sideburn though!!

All theses Golds, all this glory, . . but I wonder, would Wiggo would let me past in my car on a country road?

No. There was some car stuck behind him for the entire race.

Apparently the driver got out and confronted him afterwards, he told them to **** off though

We watched on the Portsmouth Road after Cobham. Good support for most riders but mega cheers for Froome and Wiggo. It's was a shock to see Froome ahead of Sanchez as we did not know his news. Cancellara looked beaten then which was sad. Great support for team GB and loads of non-cyclists really getting into it.

First time to see a pro TT. The impression of speed was not as great as I imagined and they all seemed bulkier than I expected (all in relative senses obviously) . Mega bike envy though. Cervelos, dayglo Shivs and the Giants looked particularly nice!!!!!

Ladbrokes have paid out on all bets for Wiggins to win SPOTY

Three letters say Wiggins wont win SPOTY despite his stunning Year. S. K. Y. The beeb referred to the tour (covered by rival network) as a great prep for the olympics (covered by them), I'm too cynical to think we will see loads of coverage of arch rival SKY-emblazoned kit dominating a centrepiece of the beeb's annual programming.

I hope I'm wrong, but there's a dozen other sports (Andy Murray winning our hearts by losing wimbledon) and possible olympic stories that could eclipse him as far as the beeb and the press is concerned.
