is it wrong? cos i have got a urge to get one done.
Tattoos are stupid
Surely you're still young though? 😉
I go through this every year - should I/shouldn't I etc.
people who say stuff is stupid are stupid.
is it wrong? cos i have got a urge to get one done.
Go for it, why worry what others think?
"Tattoos are stupid"
Why's that then?
FIST on one hand as you are the yorkshire man I will let you decide which vowel to elongate on pie for the other hand 😉
Folk who dont like tats will say no
Only bad tats are bad IMHO age is neither here nor there
...regret the folly of their youth....? (perhaps)
...or should know better? (perhaps)
IMO (of course) - but how long before you grow to hate your favourite shirt/{insert and fashionable item} and wonder why you ever had it? So make sure it really is what you want. No-one's choice but your own in the end though.
I've often pondered whether to get a sick man bike tattoo but still have never managed to actually get it done
As a 41yr old with a cute devil on my hip (17 at the time) & a skull with a blue Mohawk (23) with added tribal (33), my advice is make sure it is either really, really relevant to you and your lifestyle or represents your take on life. Or that it is so damn good that it doesn't matter!
Do not skimp on your chosen artist...
but how long before you grow to hate your favourite [s]shirt/{insert and fashionable item}[/s] wife?
Never really understood why people think tattooes are temporary or should be seen as if they are temporary.
Are they looking at only one aspect? (perhaps)
simondbarnes - MemberTattoos are stupid
Less stupid than massive, one-eyed, stupid generalisations.
DS - if that relates to my point 😉 then absolutely not. That's the point I am making. Oh and the impact of sagging skin in more advanced years 😉 !!
Excellent tattooist in Hyde Park ton - have a butchers at his website:
www.physicalpoetry.co.uk
Oh and the impact of sagging skin in more advanced years !!
Talking about the wife again? 😉
I assume that all the haters change their wives or girlfriends at the first sign of sagging and have great difficulty in maintaining concentration for more than about ten minutes.
It's all a bit strange to me.
I've got the next one lined up.
Cracking one in Skipton as well mate, on Water Street.
Why the hell not Tony?
Do it..
If you want one, then why not??
Tattoos are great, i laugh every time i see one.
The one on the left must have the bad ass, the other two tattooed dudes seem a little less happy about the smell.
I noted with interest that tattoos came up on a Mental Health First Aid course I recently attended in the self-harm category.
I think the biggest thing against tattoos (at any age) is that, IF (and is it a big IF) you think the human body is a classic, wonderful, beautifully evolved design, then tattooing it is akin to adding a Halfords spoiler to a Type 35 Bugatti.

Is this an actual FACT or just your opinion?

or following a tradition as old as mankind itself!
I like tattoos and my view is that you get one because it's for YOU, it means something to you and that is all that matters. If you just get a bit of flash from a wall 'cos it's what all your mates have had done at a tattoo shop then chances are you may regret it at a later date.
I don't understand the ridicule from the virgin skinned mob, I don't mock you for looking like every other boring conformist fker, (that's your lifestyle choice and I respect that)
So to be honest ton, if you want it, go for it. Find a good tattoo artist that can design what you want, that will work with you your body and it can be a really positive life affirming thing.
A kind of "I'm doing this for me, screw society and it's shallow preconceptions, this makes ME happy"
what tazzy said, if you want one then why not get one? If you're not sure then either play it safe and don't or bite the bullet and go for it. Be warned though, they're addictive
EDIT: I would say that wait until you have an idea of what you want than just a tattoo for the sake of it and invest wisely, go speak to an artist before use them, go through their books and take your time.
Ton - tattoos are awesome. If you want one, bloody go out and get one. BUT - as said above, don't get a crappy flash one off the wall of a shop, find yourself an artist whose work you love and come up with a design that you both think will work well on you.
Would second the recommendation for Physical Poetry above, a few mates have had stuff done there that's been cracking. Ultimate Skin used to be pretty awesome too, though I've not heard much from them recently.
I can also recommend Cruithni Custom in Hull, Davey is a top lad and spent hours with me coming up with designs.
That said, I did wait ten years before getting one of mine, just to be sure I liked it!
Go for it, why worry what others think?
if you don't care what other people think, why have a tattoo? I mean, how much time do you spend looking at yourself ?
I don't understand the ridicule from the virgin skinned mob, I don't mock you for looking like every other boring conformist fker, (that's your lifestyle choice and I respect that)
that's actually quite funny, getting one often just makes you look like every other tattooed person, tattoos are boring and conformist on boring and conformist people. getting one doesn't make you cool and edgy, especially if you work in I.T.
if you don't care what other people think, why have a tattoo? I mean, how much time do you spend looking at yourself ?
so Simon, do you choose a bike, clothes, car, and so on... because to you like them or because of of how you think others will perceive you?
same with tattoos, I chose something because I like it.
and all people of an ethnic origin look the same to you as well do they?
being of "ethnic origin" i have to say no they don't. neither do people of a different "ethnic origin" to me.
Not having a tattoo is the new having a tattoo.
When every man and his dog has some stupid tribal tat (Pun intended), then not having one is the new rebellion, the new individuality.
if you don't care what other people think, why have a tattoo?
I think you've actually got me on this and the only answer I can come is to ask why do we do anything.
I could be as simple as the reason for taking photos of women's rears, it seemed a good idea at the time, but in hindsight it might not be how I want people to think of me.
As Tazzy says, I like and I don't have to justify anything I do to anyone.
Not having a tattoo is the new having a tattoo.
Surely being non-judgemental is the new having a tattoo, isn't it?
Great tattoo work is great, but bad tattoo work is terrible.
'Bad' could be - badly done tattooing (like everything else - you only pay for quality once 😉 ), bad design (and that's not as subjective as it sounds, I've seen a lot of stuff that I'd never have done, but that still looked fantastic), or just otherwise decent enough stuff in the wrong place.
Take your time, talk to your tattooist, if it's not coming together, leave it for a bit, if you don't like the studio, walk away.
A decent artist will give you good solid after-care advice. Follow it carefully and your tattoos will thank you for it.
I like and I don't have to justify anything I do to anyone.
no I'm afraid this is "narrow minded track world" you must follow the herd like all the good little sheeple! 😀
yep totally identical, not even their mums could tell them apart
i credited you with the intelligence to realise i was suggesting that a tattoo was the same as a a suit, BMW, Rolex or any other social bauble worn by a popinjay with an implied meaning, they obviously don't look the same.
i was obviously wrong as were you.
so Simon, do you choose a bike, clothes, car, and so on... because to you like them or because of of how you think others will perceive you?
the former 🙂 Otherwise I'd be a right numpty! I only want people to react to my character, not my appearance or possessions.
r any other social bauble worn by a popinjay with an implied meaning
that rather suggests that you don't understand the social heritage of tattoos, but hey, it's a lifestyle choice that you have no interest in, that's fine.
I'm an 'older' bloke
I'm a grandad
I've got tattoo's
I don't regret any of them
I'm planning on getting more - might even go this month
Couldn't give a flying f##k what anyone else thinks ! Might even get my nipples pierced
Might even get my nipples pierced
great idea, it can add all sorts of fun to play time 😆
social heritage of tattoos
oh, you mean they're actually parasitic ? The tattoo has you rather than the other way round ?
I only want people to react to my character, not my appearance or possessions.
to be fair if people react in a negative manner to my appearance then they're not the sort of person I want to interact with anyway. (it's a very simple selection process, open minded and tolerant=I like, closed narrow minded and judgemental = not interested) 😀
that rather suggests that you don't understand the social heritage of tattoos, but hey, it's a lifestyle choice that you have no interest in, that's fine.
you are so right, i'll just have to muddle through and make the best of it, ignorance is bliss and all that.
Mine are in your face and I like them that way..
They certainly have an effect on the way that certain folk preconceive me and for that they pay for themselves a thousand times over..
a dickhead filter if you like..
Mr Smith- I don't understand your rather antagonistic stance to something you clearly have no interest in or understanding of. Does it make you feel better about yourself to mock those different to you, or is just an act of self-aggrandisement to brighten an otherwise dreary day? xx
to be fair if people react in a negative manner to my appearance then they're not the sort of person I want to interact with anyway.
You don't always get to choose who you interact with.
why is this in the bike section ?
or is just an act of self-aggrandisement to brighten an otherwise dreary day?
which having tattoos so obviously isn't

just stoking the fire of healthy discourse.
it's not been a dreary day, England have beaten australia (again) and the TDF has started.
different is good, conformity is boring, tattoo's are hardly a mark of being 'different' if anything they now suggest conformity.
You don't always get to choose who you interact with.
You do if you want to repeat, because then you're making a judgment from a more informed position. 😉
the main thing I like about tattoos is how people who have them go on and on and on about how they don't have to justify them 🙂
😀
Mine are in your face and I like them that way..
bloody hell! just had to run to the bathroom and check!
thankfully no sign of spiders webbs, swastika's or swallows.
the main thing I like about tattoos is how people who have them go on and on and on about how they don't have to justify them
Could this not be said about the tattoo free who enter tattoo threads to either point and laugh and tell people that they shouldn't have tattooes because the body is beautiful without?
[/img]Not a tattoo in sight. 😯
Simonfbarnes- I'm sure you're a lovely man, but if I ever meet you, I'm afraid I'm going to have stick your face in a sack of rabid badgers 😆
Not a tattoo in sight
but still beautiful because they're people with hopes and dreams and personalities and that is far more "beautiful" than any shallow judgement based on external appearance. Oh no, hang on apparently it isn't according to the "wisdom" of STW 🙂
Simonfbarnes- I'm sure you're a lovely man
wrong
and tell people that they shouldn't have tattooes because the body is beautiful without?
we're vainly trying to justify not having had a tattoo...
I'm afraid I'm going to have stick your face in a sack of rabid badgers
you'd better be carrying it because I shan't wait for you to find one
What does that lassie have tattooed on her midriff, does it really say "death by smeg" ? Or did I just watch too many Red Dwarf episodes ??
But anyways, tattoos are like abortions, if you don't believe in it, then don't have one, and keep your mouth shut.
Ton, if you want a tattoo then get one. Enjoy it, it's fun. If you don't want people judging you, which is not something you should really care about, then get it somewhere easily covered up if you have to mix with straights.
But anyways, tattoos are like abortions, if you don't believe in it, then don't have one, and keep your mouth shut.
except no one has to die ?
one might suppose that superficial decoration was only about evoked response
SFB...you like people who go on and on? Quelle surprise...
one might suppose that superficial decoration was only about evoked response
one might be very, very wrong and missing the point entirely, but it wouldn't stop one spouting ill informed, knackers on the tinterweb like a goodun would it Simon? 😆
I said that tattoos are like abortions, not 100% the identical experience. Sigh. Must spell things out more for stupid people. The comparison was that both are a matter of personal choice. And I'm not biting on the people dying bait, sorry, bicker pointlessly with somebody else tonite, loser.
Tattoos are great, i laugh every time i see one.
What, out loud or just to yourself?
Go for it Ton. I waited till I was 45, just so I was sure like.
Must spell things out more for stupid people.
ya got me in one 🙂
I've just developed a new theory that having a tattoo is a form of bullying for those not nasty enough to do it to anyone else
What, out loud or just to yourself?
out loud, i also point.
out loud, i also point.
Me tinks you is big fibber. 😆
i also point.
I suspect people willing to inflict that level of suffering on themselves wouldn't hesitate to react aggressively... I've already been threatened with rabid badgers 🙁
Me tinks you is big fibber.
i have a tribal tattoo but am not in a tribe. 😥
Friend of mine has a tat and she's planning on turning it into a sleeve. Not sure I think it'd look good but she does and ultimately it's her opinion that matters. Personally I doubt my ability to make a choice for that sort of thing that I think will look good for more than a week let alone a lifetime.
So ton, to tatt or not to tatt?
i have a tribal tattoo but am not in a tribe.
Ha! I have a Celtic cross on my chest & I'm not even religious!
i will be visiting a couple of places and talking to the artists.
the thing i have in mind is pretty graphic, so i want to make sure they think it can be done to a good level.
the thing i have in mind is pretty graphic
me too, it involves, expanding foam, and orifices of certain individuals followed by a visit from Mr Hilti, the nail gun 😀
the thing i have in mind is pretty graphic, so i want to make sure they think it can be done to a good level.
Artists like a big canvas....
😉
😆
Good stuff.
Sorry, Ton, couldn't resist!
Come on Ton. You've got to tell us what you're thinking of. I can recommend a good tattooist too. Manchester though.
I can recommend a good tattooist too. Manchester though.
Go on.
Any recommendations for Wrexham, Chester or Shrewsbury?
