Some 1990 hubs on one bike, and seatpost of same age on another.

You?

RSX brake/shifters and 600 series wide cantis on the tourer, maybe mid eighties? Loads of Stx bits and parallax hubs on hack bikes. Loads from 1997 on.

XT shifters are over ten years old, got a HT 1 XT chainset off ebay that's maybe the same age and until recently had a square taper 5 arm XT chainset that I also got off ebay.

Suntour rear mech from 1990

Not shimano, but campag downtube levers from 1980

And Campag Chorus hubs from 1992 (which are simply the best)

Exage 300 and 600 on the tourer/commuter, doesn't get used much though.

All my MTB stuff is dead or relatively new and in use.

Some ancient XT shifters & XTR mechs. The hubs & BB's got swapped for decent stuff.

Haven't got much Shimano stuff which has lasted long enough to count. Not complaining - it's all high wear-rate stuff like rear-mechs and BBs.

105 hubs from about 1998
8speed Ultegra STI levers from whenever 8 speed Ultegra was still in production.
XT 4pot discs. Though they're not on a bike anymore, but still work!

Rsx rear mech, circa 1996, was originally on my race bike, but still going strong in daily use on my commuter.

'79 600 arabesque on the road bike. '96 XT V brakes, front mech and levers on my Klein. BB in my 5 Spot must be 10 years old as I bought it with the Middleburn cranks that are hung off it but to be fair it is starting to click now. Think its a UN72.

Shimano 600 front mech on my CX bike.

It came on my first road bike in 1996, by the time I sold the road frame, it was the only original component left on there. It sat in a parts box for a bit before being used when I built up my CX bike about 4 years ago and has been doing sterling work on there ever since.

🙂

My '92 Breezer has original Deore DX SPDs, b/b, hubs, mechs and cantis, and XT rapidfires. My '93 Marin has DX thumbies, original LX mechs & front hub, and c. '95 XT v-brakes.

XT 8-speed shifters and mechs (replaced jockey wheels in rear) from my first proper mountain bike - 1990-ish. The bike is now relegated to towpath and pub duties. I rode it last night and was thinking how crisp quick and smooth the shifts still were, certainly a lot more fault tolerant than my 9 & 10 speed transmissions.

Yeah, my Marin is an everyday commuter, gets no attention, yet the gears just keep on working.

7sp Shimano 105 kit from 1989 on a road bike:
downtube shifters 8) , front/rear mech, crankset, BB (tools to get that out cost probably more than the bike is worth), oh and brakes.
All still perfectly functional.

DX spd, xt rear hub which spins well, dx front mech, stx bb which is also amazingly smooth. Why doesnt my current rear hope hub freewheel so well and have a grease port?

600 hubs, 8 speed dura ace shifters and mechs (running at 7 speed cos you could do that in the olden days!)

1993 XTR hubs.

Old XT thumbies.

Mixture of '95-97 XT mechs, V-brakes, levers & chainset.

Square-taper BB - which has just started to give up, after nearly 7 years' worth of service...

I'd like to still be using a Deore XT sharkfin.

Exage hubs from about 1991 in my commuter. The levers were still good but came off when I swapped the bike to Vs. It's got an exage mech on it as well of unknown vintage, bought just recently.

c. 93 XT thumbies
c. 94 LX drivetrain, STX canti's, ultegra bar end shifters on touring bike
c. 95 XT V brake levers working great with Avid BB5 brakes
c. 95 XT rear mechs x 2
c.98? 8 speed XTR front & rear mech, XTR cassette

All the above in regular use, some stuff just seems to last. On the other side, I've never got shimano hubs to last more than a few years. Also got a few spare NOS XTR cassettes to keep the 8 speed stuff going for a while yet 🙂

I've got some XT thumbies made from campher wood and ivory. Jesus used them on His ten speed.

Still going strong but whale oil lube is getting harder to come by
