You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I use the online OS Maps, find the website and the phone app pretty good.
I have a Garmin Etrex 20, which was OK but as my reading sight declines in middle age, I find the screen too small to be useful. Can't wear readers on the bike!
I was thinking of buying an old Galaxy S3 purely for navigation. I can pick one up for about £50 - £70, including case and mount. Seems a much better/cheaper large screen option than a Garmin or similar, without getting too large, my current phone is an S8 and I think it's a bit too big to sit on my stem.
I thinking battery life should be pretty good, as I will be using it in aeroplane mode, no sim card and all the maps pre-downloaded.
Anyone done similar?
I had the same idea as you.
Downloaded all the tracks and everything.
Ultimately you can't see the screen on anything but the dullest days.
I gave up.
Good point!
I had a S3 and forgot how hard the screen was to see in sunlight and was almost invisible if wearing sunglasses.
Thanks for that, just saved myself a few quid.
I might just use my S8 with a mount.
