I need to make space in my garage by rationalizing my bikes, they used to all get used when riding was my everything but not for the last few years.
Problem is they are all old (26 inch wheel MTB) so are they essentially worthless?
Orange P7 made up with Hope and Race Face kit, Olympic rims on BETD hubs, Rockshock Revalation forks but not in the best condition approx 13 yo
Giant Anthem factory stock nearly as new Fox forks full XT
On One scandal with Pace RC31 carbon fork bitsa bike
What would you do with them?
I also have a couple of road bikes but not much seems to have changed with them so is less of an issue, ideally I would like 2 bikes, an MTB and a gravel bike with a spare road wheel set but must get rid of some before any thing else
eBay is currently giving great returns on bikes, so I would say now is about the best time to sell on there.
Do an advanced eBay search for your bikes or keywords and include ‘Sold’ and ‘Completed’ listings in the search.
There is almost bound to be something similar sold, which will give you an idea of market value. Which is currently elevated.
Now’s probably a good time to sell judging by the eBay prices thread.
Last year I sold a couple of bikes via a local shop that does sale or return.
One was a basic trek hardtail bought years ago for child carrying duties. Sold quite quickly for a station commuter more than I expected.
The other was a Fisher Sugar 1, 26” wheels, v brakes, minimal
suspension. Took longer to sell but got far more than I thought possible even after the shops cut. And of course no hassle for me.
I've had more luck with facebook groups than anything else recently. Probably as good a place as any to try, and it's free.
Price them realistically and they will sell quickly because everyone's bored, and some have furlough money to burn as they're no longer paying for petrol and nights out.
Ive just sold a 2009 GT Aggressor XCR via Facebook Marketplace for £220
In less than 24hrs of listing it i had 25 messages asking to buy it
Everyone is desperate for a bike and most of Joe Public have no idea about wheel size or even care
Those are all bikes that still have fans.
I reckon they'd sell ok.
Yep, 26" Lapierre Zesty 2011 at the start of the lockdown. Put in on Facebook Marketplace not expecting much interest. £300 in my hand within an hour and loads of messages suggesting I'd underpriced it.
Ok thanks, tested the water by putting one of them on ebay (the hassle nearly drove me nuts)

I've got an old Airborne Lucky Strike, so I thought I'd try your suggestion. There's one on eBay right now for £1250! No way is it worth that much ... is it?
I put my old Giant 26 FS on Ebay with a start price of £300. Was hoping to get about £275. Got £350 offer within about half an hour. Sold. May have got more but tht will buy me anew set of Hunt Wheels so happy with that.
What size is the Anthem?
I was in your position, but had butchered too many high end bikes... Had a Turner 5 Spot and a bunch of U turn pikes and a Kinesis and blah blah... In the end I gave it the Bristol Bike project. They teach disadvantaged people how to mend stuff. Sell it. My kind of charity. So no regrets. But I did turn up with a boot full of stuff that had cost thousands... what felt like last week 😉
Now, Facebook market place is the hassle free way. It's a bit tricky as a buyer, as the filters are limited and it suffers from being a little too easy to post on. So people get lazy with pics and description. But as a seller, it's up to you to put as much important detail as required. With those bikes and specs, I'd suggest a good edit of detail and spec in the title. Then with the description, make sure you use all the text space possible (it expands when a buyer clicks on your pic). Also lots of pics. To help with the furloughed posse, include some layman's info, as well as nerd info... like "this was a top bike from 10 years ago, now highly appropriate for high end fitness duties. Only selling to keep up with modern bike industry" type thing. There are people looking at bike ads at the moment, who've never looked at anything other than an argos catalogue before. But may still be intelligent and capable of realising the bargain available. But there is also a load of well informed bike people, who may want something specific and retro. Retrobike was a big website a while back. When I was in London and the fixie thing was booming. A fascination with old steel... also a big scene for old GT Zaskars and Joe Murray Konas.
Anyone want to give me oodles of cash for a hardly used 2011 Cove HJ?
😜
