So, I used to love my Turner DW flux (26"), but I recently decided a needed a more bouncy bike and got myself a Yeti SB6.
After riding the Yeti for a few months, I went on a family bike ride and got back on the Turner.
It felt weird, and small and clunky, I was sad as it used to be my pride and joy.
Not sure whether to sell it on or keep it for my boy for when he is older (currently 5).
It cost me over £3.5K to build it, any idea what I would realistically get for it now? Will probably just by a cheaper 27.5/29er for family rides and save the yeti for the rough stuff! (or for when the yeti breaks I am sure you will all say!)
I’m not sure you’ll get that much money for a 26er as a whole bike. If it has some bling components you might get more if you break it.....
Plenty of reasonable priced secondhand fs bikes that are on the smaller side of travel but still have modern ish geometry.
I think most of us have been in this boat. Its quite sickening how little you would get for it. I managed to off load my high spec Yeti 575 a few years ago for £750 but recently tried to sell my high spec Cotic Soul for £450 and no one was interested.
I'd keep it for your son.

Yeah, ummed and ahhed about getting rid, but in the end the low price I would have got means my 13 year old daughter is now the owner of a Mojo HD...
Yup, my 14yr old son is on a carbon stumpy FSR. crazy!
OP - suggest you keep it, but maybe add a dropper? Its always useful to have ea spare bike for guests, kids etc.
Hi
Similarly keeping my very high spec Cotic Soul and Rocket (both 26) for junior (now 11) in the vain hope he’ll want to ride them
Cheers
Steve
As above. Similar fate befell my Mk1 carbon Blur. Once I'd got used to slacker geometry and bigger wheels it just felt awkward. I ended up replacing it with an Occam.
My girlfriend gets to rid my medium 26 dw flux, whilst my large 26 dw flux frame rests on the rafters in the garage.
As my main bike is a 27.5 dw-flux I can always nab the bearing bits from the old frames if I need them.
I couldn't get on with my 575 once I got a 29er - luckily Jr was just the right size and used it for a few years. Sold the 575 on ebay and got him a Remedy. Yeti went for £800, which I thought was ok. Obviously nothing like what it cost, but the buyer seemed genuinely chuffed with it, so I'm happy it's gone to a good home 🙂

Hi mate, I might be interested in a high spec Soul for that kinda money. What size is it please? And what's the spec? You can pm or email on benwaterhouse1(AT)gmail.com
Similarly OP, if you do decide to sell it, please let me know.
Break it apart and sell. Going to be a long time before your lad can use it and even then do you really want to see your old pride and joy neglected, abused, left lying out in the peeing rain in the garden and then ultimately nicked when he leaves it outside a shop for 2 minutes.
Even if he's a serious rider when he can fit it, are you going to still get parts to service the suspension parts in 10 years time?
Yup, my 14yr old son is on a carbon stumpy FSR. crazy!
My 15 yr old son is riding around on a Seven Sola SL ti 26 with XTR/XO, Carbon everything else and Chris King hubs! All top grade stuff but relatively obsolete by today’s standards. ☹️ My son doesn’t appreciate what he is riding on either so double ☹️☹️
A couple of months ago I went out on my Mk3 Soul for the first in a while and the front wheel felt like it would tuck under all the time. I had been thinking about selling it but loved the sprightly feel until that ride. I had also been saving it for my eldest, but ultimately she might never grow into it and if she did I was worried about spares, so as soon as I got back I put it up for sale so that I didnt change my mind!
It was high spec and I wanted £450, but I have ended up splitting it as I only got interest in the frame and not in the whole bike. With a bit of time I should clear the £450 pretty comfortably
It did this in early 2017. I bought a Last FastForward, rode it for 2 months non-stop and then got on my DW Turner Sultan for the summer, which was horrid. It felt twitchy, unstable and the cockpit felt wrong
I just couldn't imagine spanning the difference between then from a riding perspective and Within a month I had a newer FS (Banshee Prime) that mirrored the shape of the FastForward, and the Sultan was broken into parts and sold.
I've just done it to myself again by replacing the FastForward with a Pole Taival. Jumping on the FS, I'm immediately aware it's different, but fortunately, it's not so different that I can't live with it until it needs replacement in the fullness of time.
If your son is only five I'd say sell now. Even if its a small frame you're realistically keeping it for five years at least: my boy is 11yo in a few weeks and *just about* fits onto a small 26er.
That Yeti is delicious. I miss mine (
I split and sold a 2012 Commencal meta AM recently and bought a Garmin Fenix 5!!
Made much more money splitting it but I need a new full suss now though....
Replaced my 2012 XTC 29er with a Specialized chisel expert. Its amazing how a few changes like 2 degrees on the head angle , boost and wider XC wheels change the ride. The XTC feels twitchy and uncomfortable compared to the Chisel. I expected an improvement but its crazy just how much!
It broke my heart to split and sell my 09 DW link Flux back in July.
I did it during an ebay £1 fee promotion so paid little fees.
I got £1000 back by selling each component separately.
Big ticket items were:
Frame: (Luckily I paid only £600 new for it in 2010 from wiggle) just £300
Wheels: DT swiss 5.1 on Hope pro II merely £125 (they sold separately)
Fork: Fox Float 32 (seems good 26 straight steerer forks are rare now) a massive £155
The rest of the kit (M8000 XT and deore brakes, hope bling, cruxi dropper) all adds up surprisingly, but was current enough it could have been kept for a winter hardtail (if only I knew those scandals were coming at that pre order price).
I even sold the 2.25 / 2.3 folding schwalbe 26er tyres on ebay for £27, I think decent 26 tyres are getting rare.
But £300 for that frame I was weeping. But as you say it felt very odd going back to it.
