I have an old set of 36 Talas’ that I would like to service the lowers on.

AFAIK the actual Talas damper is completely non-home serviceable and a specialist job, but no one ever seems to talk about the lowers, just the damper and how you shouldn’t try to work on this fork at home

Is servicing the lowers just the same simple as any other fork?  Asking mostly because while I’d like them serviced I’m not sure I can justify the cost of commercial service for such an old fork and I don’t want to open them up and discover that I shouldn’t have done! 😅

If anyone has any specific instructions I’d also be glad of a quick look.   I *think* it’s an ‘08, chassis is that dark ‘Talas blue’ and the decals have sky blue flashes...

I do the basic servicing on my 32 Talas RLC of the same vintage. They are open-bath so you are replacing more oil than just lower leg lubricant volumes but it's no more complicated. Service instructions are still on the Fox site for my older 32 Talas so assume same for 36.

Ok, had a dig around on RideFox and found the manual with instructions for seal clean and oil bath replacement, but it dodges seal replacement.

While the nuts at the bottom of the lowers are off for the oil change, can you just heave the lowers off the stanchions to access the dust seal and foam like you would on a non-Talas or is there a reason the manual avoids describing this?

I had a set of 09 36 Talas fork and used to service them regularly, it was the same process as for a standard fork. There were in depth instructions for this but they seem to have gone from the Fox website. Just remove the lowers, dust seals and use a spanner to pry out the seals if needed. Squirt in some new oil and away you go.
