I'm after a 'homage' to the Maxx-D or Six Pack or whatever it's called now. I want huge light output! And maybe a large battery pack as well for long night rides. It's dark up here in Scotland!
I've got a solarstorm x2 copy, which isn't bad (similar to a dual xpg I built with the help of Troutie and others from a thread on here about 4 years ago). The solarstorm would be a lot better if it was running closer to 3 amps on high power (only runs at 1.7 amps).
Reading on mtbr forum the xt40 gets some good feedback.

this chap has a blog and seems to know what they are on about when it comes to battery technology read the blog?

The XT40 is this years light, but id highly recommend a proper battery pack..

lots of info in this thread....
Surely this is a contender:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lumens-Battery-larger-Bicycle-Flashlight/dp/B00K14YKFG
Comical claim of 9,000 lumens, but I guess a 1/2 of that would still be bright. Fine for melting rocks.
I recently paid £25 for a UK supplied 7200 lumen light with a 6-battery pack.
It's not 7200 lumens, but is far better/brighter than either my old Toro or (failed) 3-year old previous Chinese light and lasts well enough for a 3 hour ride.
That one ^^ will be 6000 lumens at the most. An XM-L2 will put out 1000 lumens at it's max rating of 3a and that's not taking into account loses in the circuitry
I Demand a link for a light I don't need (but 25 squiddlies to up the ante on the work arms race is a bargain) /edit the one two places above me
hey look at me doing nothing in the wilderness? wtf
The XT40 is the daddy for putting your mates in the shadow.
cheers B R, that's my xmas pressie to me sorted.
By jingo, that setup ^^ would boil canals! i feel for the innocents you surprise in the woods..
i use one of these with a waterproof battery, I carry the oe one as a back up
This looks like a cheap version of a Hope R8 but with XMLs

And I've picked up the last one of those £25 lights, thanks B R.

I decided to try this one. Theoretically it is twice the power of the R8... according to the specs on the Cree website.
While we're on the subject of lights: Where can I buy new and higher quality electrical connectors for these lighting systems? I have got 3 sets of the Hope R4 'homage' lights sitting at home doing nothing due to the connectors failing.
Buy a soldering iron? I've got batteries and lights that have failed due to awful wiring. There is a reason they are cheaper than real Hopes...
Buy a soldering iron?
it's the connector mating surfaces, they just stop working. Hope lights are good but not 8x as good.

@deveron on another thread someone suggested simply squeezing with pliers to make the connection more snug
