I've just upgraded to tubeless wheels and tyres. I'm running 700c 38mm Schawlbe G-One Allrounds and I am carrying a tubeless repair kit with worms to fix anything that the sealant can't handle but I want to carry a 'get me home' inner tube just in case. I have a nice lightweight Maxxis Welterweight 25/32c inner tube and I'm wondering if it would be OK to carry that as my backup tube to get me home or should i go for a wider and slightly heavier tube?

I bet it'd work perfectly with a brand new setup but tubeless tyres tend to have little "puncturey" things stuck in their carcasses after a a while and there's always a risk of punturing your replacement tube when you put it in.  I'd guess that's increased if you've got a slightly overstretched "nice lightweight" tube to go in so you'd probably want to check the inner surface of the carcass (you know, the one with all the slimy jizz on it) carefully before fitting.
