I asked a month or so ago about the calibre bossnut, great thread and loads of positive reviews. I didn't think my son was a brand whore but Mrs ws is not so sure.

So cutting to the chase, he's 13, can certainly ride a bike, (maybe blinkered dad view) currently on my 7 yr old rebuilt 120mm spesh xc full suss which last weekend he made dance all over bike park wales, rode all the reds but nothing beyond and hit every jump up and down on a470.

He bikes to school every day, rips it home the long way rather than straight back and has been telling me tales of hopping straight on to the benches on the park.

It's gone from 850 on a calibre with discount to looking at 2k whytes. He has no idea and no request for a new bike but most of all I want to blow him away on Christmas day and him to say Jesus would want us to peddle right now!

What would you buy?

Genuinely open to suggestions.

TIA

Would you go second hand or do you want to get him something brand new? No specific suggestions, just thinking an expensive bike for a teen cycling to school might be a bad idea.

I think one of the "rules" of new bike may be keep on the spesh for school. We live in a reasonably decent area and school is like Guantanamo to be fair.
