Anyone know what it's equivalent to/how to convert it to the normal oil weight that fork oil is quoted in?
Thanks but the measure 'K' isn't mentioned in there....
When you say normal oil are you referring to engine oil types like 10W40
multigrades?
Fork oils are usually monogrades eg 10w or 5w.
This all gets very complicated when you start looking beyond basic viscosities and get into oils with specific applications. There are so many different types of additive packages that it is very hard to ensure that you are comparing apples with apples.
Oil weight is pretty much as vague as it gets. One manufacturer's 15wt is anothers 10wt.
IIRC you're better at looking at the viscosity at a range of temperatures to get a better idea of the oils behaviour.
I'll explain..........
I'm looking for something called Motorex Supergliss 100K, to use in my DT forks. It's a 'slideway' oil and the viscosity measure is 100K. So I'm trying to find an oil of equivalent weight.
Trying to find any specs for the stuff is the best way to find a comparison, but I can't find any!
I had a look at the Motorex site and there is no technical data on there. Maybe speak to one on the UK suspension specialists and see what they use in DT Swiss forks.
You can buy it from Germany http://www.bike-components.de/products/info/p30794_Supergliss-100K-Schmieroel-fuer-DT-Swiss-Federgabeln-.html
On a side note...........
If you want to increace low speed damping and decreace high speed damping, should you run heavier or lighter oil, assuming the damping orifice is altered to suit.
i.e. My forks have acceptable high speed damping, but too slow on the low speed. Should I fill them with thicker oil and open up the damper, or thinner and close it.
Or will neither make any difference at all.

If it's just for the semi-bath in the lowers it doesn't matter what weight it is as it's not being used for damping, if the fork is open bath and it is being used for damping then I guess it does matter.
From what decipherecifer from the below google translated page it is just for lubrication in which case you can use another suitable oil such as good quality fully synthetic engine oil (e.g. Mobil 1)
Answering my own question.......
Assuming that the flow reaches a choke (i.e. the velocity through the damper is approaching the speed of sound) then the choke would occour independant(ish) of viscocity, it would be determined by area. Whereas upto that point damping is a function of viscocity. So filling the forks with treacle and opening the damper wide open should make them fast, but with no top out or bobbing.
Eh?
Somebodys on a come down......
