Pants.
I managed to get myself a set of XFusion McQueens on a well known auction site last week, they arrived yesterday.
Really happy with what I paid, seller was excellent and packaged them very well, absolutely no grips there.
However, I decided to set the pressure according to the guides, and as I released the air, a jet of oil sprayed all over my wrist, up the fork and onto the ceiling. Now I've managed to clean it up, so that's fine, but I'm worried that I've bought some forks with a damaged seal and they're getting oil into the springs.
Am I worrying over nothing?
Obviously, I've asked the seller if they had that issue via ebay, so lets see what comes of it.
Ideally, I want to keep the forks, have them repaired if I can, but if I need them repaired, I don't want to end up out of pocket.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to stick 5mls or so of oil into the air chamber during service, so chances are you've not got a problem. I normally let the air out using a shock pump to avoid squirtage. I doubt what you've lost will cause you an issue though.
I think the service guide doesn't include this instruction, though, will try to look it up though.
Mentioned in this MTBR thread:
https://mtbhowto.com/oil-volume-x-fusion-sweep-rl2-160mm-all/
this is for the sweep - suggests 10ml of 10wt in the air spring, probably the same/similar for the McQueen
Huh, thought I’d already posted here..... anyway. As above, oil in the spring is fine, you can also adjust the volume to a degree to act as volume spacers. Now you know the let the air out a bit more slowly in future too....
