Ohlins TTX2 versus CCDB inline coil

Has anyone ridden both?

I fancy a change from my inline coil - I have a couple of little niggles that I can’t tune out, but after a google search I can’t find any direct comparisons.

To place this in context - the inline coil is brilliant but since having a new set of fox 36 fitted I find it ever so slightly slow to react to a couple of very specific events. E.g. after a deep compression - approaching bottom out, it seems to pause slightly before rebounding. I’ve tried tuning this out and though high speed rebound & slow speed rebound are set very light, and once moving the shock extends very quickly back to sag point, it’s that weird transition between compression & rebound that almost feels like it overwhelms the shock; like at deep compression it just can’t react quickly enough.

Reading up a little it seems that Ohlins use the bottom out bumper as a secondary spring, which helps this situation; it could well be that my CCDB uses a fairly soft bottom out bumper. I don’t know.

Anyway, can anyone give a comparison?

I have owned both, but not had them on the same bike.

Generally I wasn't that impressed with the inline. It just didn't seem to have the same quality of damping or level of support as a full fat coil shock like a ccdb, ttx, ext or even the DBair

I can't comment directly on the issue you are describing, but the main characteristic of the ttx for me is that it smothers the trail and feels very composed.

Might be worth considering the kitsuma coil? Does that have a bigger bottom out bumper?

I find the inline supportive & a big performance upgrade over the inline air that it replaced, but since fitting the factory 36’s it’s really put the rear into stark contrast.

My ideal is supportive, stable around the sag point, a good match front & rear, and very quick to react then recover ready for the next “event”. I can get a kitsuma for £450 ish & a TTX for £650 ish. The reason I wasn’t looking at the kitsuma is that I’m wary it may have similar traits to the inline.

Edit: the shock actually feels ok (but not perfect). I think it’s the new forks that have made the bike slightly mismatched, or shown up the rear to be not quite so good as it previously felt. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a million miles better than when I had the air shock fitted… this is very much princess & pea stuff.

Can you say why? What is it that you prefer?

I have not owned both but tried both and owned two Ohlins TTX coil shocks. I found the Ohlins significantly better and once I got these set up for weight and riding style - never touched them again. The Cane Creek DB coil shock, had to fiddle with a lot on one ride and never was able to get it feeling right.

I have never tried other modern coil shocks to compare but quite fancy looking at an EXT Storia or the Push ElevenSix.

I preferred the old DB coil over the TTX as well.

For me, it's a bit more communicative and less insulated from the trail. The Ohlins takes the same "magic carpet" feel a step further and can be less involving to ride.

Ohlins ttx has been amazing on the back of my remedy. But not compared the ccdb only air shocks on this.

I’d agree with the smothering feel of the ohlins though, really planted and high traction. Rougher it gets the more it’s spectacular. Other point of note is because it doesn’t have so many clicks of adjustment I had to get the rebound sped up at the first service. Tf tuned we’re great to buy through and have spot on advice on spring rate and fittings etc

I’d say the Kitsuma coil is quite lively and poppy from my experience with it.

Just to add into the mix the RS Super Deluxe coil can be had with a hydraulic bottom out on it in the latest version - would probably consider that now.
