Looking at upgrading the rear fox dps on my trance x

I've narrowed my choice down to either the  ohlins ttx2 or the new  cane creek db il G2

Anyone running the ttx2 and happy with it appears there's more than half the reviews reporting issues with the reliability.

Can't beat stw for real world honesty

Both shocks come in around the same price so which would you guys choose

Have one on my Kenevo. Noticed a nice difference coming from air

Used to it now, so don't really notice it, but it works, no issues. Finding the correct spring weight might be trial and error though

TTX coil or air? I’ve got a TTX2Air and it’s hands down the best air shock I’ve ever used. I’ve put over 2,000 miles on mine and never had any real issues, apparently the air shaft was slightly scored when it went in for a service which was replaced under warranty, but I didn’t notice any performance loss.

Got one on my Sentinel - mushy out of the saddle sprinting regardless of compression settings, but otherwise a massive improvement over the X2. Shouldn’t be tough to be better than the X2 in terms of reliability….

The old DB IL was pretty sorted for reliability and a great performer, in case there are any still available in your size for cheaps?

I've not ridden the TTX2, but found the old STX air and TTX coil both to be really heavily damped, and you can't dial it off like with a Cane Creek.

My TTX22 has been reliable in the 8 months I've used it so far. I bought it cos it's one of the few shocks approved for the Stumpy Evo.

The custom tunes that Ohlins offer are one of the main selling points, so buying one from a good service center is essential, they should tell you if there is a good tune available for your Giant.

If I were you I'd get a CCDB, the tuning range is so wide you should be able to get it to ride how you want.

Air or coil?

I love mine. Air shocks are dead to me.

As above, huge improvement over a Fox X2 and it hasn't blown up yet.

Run the TTX2 Air on my norco, it's a lovely shock, have a giant reign and tend to stick with air shocks on that as it's not the most progressive of frames.

Is it theh TTX2 air or TTX22 coil you're looking at, both are great for their respective job, as is the Cane Creek, but i'd definitely get it custom tuned if you can, and a progressive spring on it as i'm pretty sure the Trance X is mapped to air shocks for that reason?

I’ve got the ttx coil. Hands down the best shock I’ve used. Can’t see the air being far off.

I'm waiting for my ttx2 air from Jtech... should be dropping any day now. Glad to read the reviews above and will report back once it's on and ridden. It's replacing a tired Rockshox deluxe so I'm hoping for a noticeable upgrade.

I ran the STX22 with no issues when others had lots of issues years back, just chucked an Ohlins TTx22 coil on and its so good! Got a deal on the coil which pushed me towards it over the air.

I’ve got the ttx coil. Hands down the best shock I’ve used.

This pretty much sums up my experience. The sole issue I had with it was the paint flaking on the coil, a known issue that I did nothing about for months and months (read about a year), and when I contacted them, Ohlins still gave me a bit of discount on a replacement. I've heard that they don't like it when they're not serviced. I service mine exactly on the due date* and they've always been super reliable

* translation: I'm very slack about servicing, almost never do it when I'm supposed to, and they put up with my ham fisted and clumsy lack of attention just fine.
