Really can't remember the last time it happened it's been that long. A slightly unexpected stop at a junction on quiet B roads and I just couldn't get my foot out in time and over I went at zero mph. To compound my embarrassment I had a driver stop to ask if I was ok 😳

In my defence I was titting about with a gel at the time, and it was at the bottom of a hill, and I do have my road cleats as tight as they'll go, and it was my dodgy left ankle that I couldn't release... etc.

I feel your pain. I remember rolling up to my drive way, stopping and then momentarily forgetting that I was clipped in. That moment was enough for me to just drop onto my side like a bloody idiot in front of all the neighbours. The shame.

Bike is ok, it was a sufficiently slow topple for me to make sure of that!

Fervouredimage, at least I don't have the shame of seeing my witnesses again 🙂

First time I rode clipped in I returned to the car in a busy car park and promptly fell off in a'clipout fail' moment. I was so rattled that I increased the onlookers hilarity by driving off leaving my helmet on top of the car. Needless to say it stayed on just long enough to roll off and disappear to parts unknown.

I've even done it with one foot on the road. Stopped at the lights, left foot clipped out, strong gust of wind from the left, over I go on to my right.

The last time I was knocked off I was lying in the road still clipped in and not able to get up or detach from the bike. Onlookers asking if I was ok whilst wriggling about trying to release from the bike. Not dignified in any way.

The first time me mate tried his cleats out we went up to the plantation for a quick blast through the trees - its a long haul up, so I waited for him at the top... and he stopped next to me for a breather.. and then a look of panic set into his face as he slowly toppled over. How we laughed.. or maybe it was just me 😀

This is why I only use flats... 😆

🙂 It is indeed the most undignified of dismounts!

Why are you doing them up so tight? It only helps when pulling up really hard which isn't necessary anyway unless you're a real power climber. Pedalling doesn't have a side to side movement so they don't need to be tight. Loosen them!

I was wondering if someone would suggest that 🙂 Like em tight, just feels right and isn't usually a problem. It's the first time I've had a comedy moment in probably over a decade, just a dodgy downhill off camber stop while faffing about with getting a wrapper back in my pocket.

Haha I've done exactly the same as the OP .. well almost, slowing at a junction and new to clips I was surprised by a car flying up the road and had to stop so decided to have a lie down.. and yes the car stopped to ask if I was OK... more embarrassed than hurt...
Thankfully I automatically unclip now by habit but it took a couple of tumbles to develop the habit.

We average about twice a ride on the tandem. 😛
I always stop left foot down, Mrs MTG always stops right foot down. If we stop a bit quick for any reason and she doesn't get time to think about it, over we go.

Picked up the daughter and she was riding her scooter. She stopped unexpectedly when i was riding slowly behind her, forgot the clips and crashed sideways through the neighbours fence. Luckily the fence was that knackered already he didn't care..

I came damn close on the weekend. Rolled up to a stop street on the way to the trails. Track standing in that nonchalant, "I'm cool" way, and as I waited for the cars to pass I started to over balance. My foot was just in the wrong position, the shoe was jammed against the crank as I tried to twist out. Cue frantic yanking of foot, which did unclip, but I got a saddle stabbed in the crotch for my efforts.

I had a good moment a few weeks ago, stopped at the bottom of a slight hill at a T junction, unclipped as usual, waited a few seconds & tried to join the traffic whilst turning right on to a main road & forgetting I was in quite a big gear, queue missing the clip & my front foot continuing forward & making contact with the front tyre whilst on full lock, a dead stop ensued & I went down in front of the car I had just pulled out in front of!
I don't know what was worse, the embarrassment or the realisation of how I had only just managed to avoid being run over which was obviously worse 😳
