Fitted some Offset bushing to my Spesh Enduro a few months ago and with it now being slacker and a lower BB I keep getting pedal strikes and getting some big offs !
Is it something you have to adapt too or shall I just change it back to standard ? Having them fitted does makes it more stable on the downs but crashing regularly is now is hammering my shins to hell 👿
Do I just continue with it and wear shin/knee pads from now on ?
Only happens when I'm riding technical areas
A lower BB will make tech stuff a bit more tricky and you have to think a lot more about where your feet are (ie: getting them out of the way better).
If you're running flats, thinner pedals may help or shorter crank arms?
The lower the bb the more you have to think about your feet. Well, either that or just accept the crashing.
The option is to replace them with an angleset. This will still lower the bb slightly, but to a lesser extent
Yeah just had another stupid crash this morn and its becoming the norm now ! I think I'll just try and get used to it and try and learn to keep my pedals level and buy some Knee/shin pads
Which Enduro is it? I think the 29er has a relatively high BB to start with so fitting offset bushes will bring it down to the height of most other current long travel frames, but still not massively low so it might just be a case of getting used to it. Not sure if the 650b version is the same. Another thing to look at is the fork and shock settings. If you’re suffering pedal strikes on slow speed seated techy stuff and also while standing on DH sections then your suspension could be blowing through its travel too easily, further reducing the BB height, which maybe wasn’t so noticeable when the BB was higher.
and learn to keep my pedals level
It's not just keeping them level, you'll need to adjust to suit any obstacles that come up. And be careful when pedaling as you can catch stuff that will throw you OTB instantly
my 2009 reign also has offset bushes. the bottom bracket sits a bit lower and i also get a few more pedal strikes but i've had to adapt my riding style so i think more about my line choices etc when riding technical sections...similar technique to riding that sort of terrain on a hardtail
I fitted offset bushings a few weeks back. Measure my BB before and after and it was about 5-7mm lower, not noticed a massive difference.
You could just fit one bush as a halfway compromise, or things like shorter cranks, thinnner pedals and fatter tyres may help offset (boom-tish :-)) the difference.
Its the 2014 Spesh Enduro 29er @Yetiman
Thats the problem @stevied the techy rooty sections where you think you can peddle that catches me out, even tried pumping to maintain speed have even stiffened the suspension to see how that works but still happens.
Slimmer peddles maybe? might have a look a the new Gamut Podium flat Peddles... any excuse !
it's not a huge difference tbh- like sitting about 4% further into your sag. Are you sure there's nothing else going on at the same time, as a result of the handling change? Like possibly "I will ride this faster beause of my slacker bike"
or the sag needs redoing due to the new seating position?
(or just generally needs looking at)
i don't even have a slackset on my bike (to my knowledge as it was SH) and was getting some strikes but i have found dialling in the suspension and switching to slim flats has helped a lot.. i had cheap tioga surefoot slims in the summer, but now have race face chesters
