My family have booked a weekend in a country cottage just outside of Jedburgh (between Minto, Langton and Jedburgh Golf Club)
instead of driving, I thought I'd get the train from Edinburgh to Tweedbank then cycle.
But **** cycling on the A68.
Any good off road routes? Can take my CX or mountain bike.
Failing that, nice backroads? Seems there is one down the B6359/B6400 down to Denholm
Google maps directions, select bike or walking for route, see what it throws up.
You must be mad if you are thinking of cycling on the A68..
Vehicles go at stupid speed +1 on there ..not sure of any backroad routes but avoid that road at all costs ..

Pick up the 4 Abbeys way in Melrose and follow that. Either clockwise via kelso (long way) or anti clockwise (relatively direct) via lilliesleaf to Jed. Both lovely rides on very quiet roads.

Nice route would be:
Boleside, Selkirk, Midlem, Lilliesleaf (stop at JammyCoo cafe), Denholm (or pick up river route just before Denholm and pass Fitlips Castle), Ancrum, Lanton.
B6359 is hard to beat on a sunny day. I grew up in Lilliesleaf so am biased.
If you cycle over to melrose you could also use 'st cuthberts way' to harestanes and pick up the abbeys way for the last few miles
So, I've now got a nice, direct off road route one of you guys sent me through as a GPX (don't know the usernames : real names mapping) and that back roads route looks nice too.
Going to load both into my GPS computer and then see how I feel when I get off the train (may depend on weather too and whether I brought my CX or my mountain bike)

I live in Melrose. The quiet roads via Lilliesleaf and Midlem are very pretty. If it's a mtb then the 4 abbeys way (not 4 abbey's cycle route!)
Sounds like you are sorted then. Weird to come on here and see mention of Lilliesleaf as I live there. It's pretty sleepy round here.
Most everything about is CX bikeable apart from the lumpier bits of the Eildons
