Rule #40 // Tires are to be mounted with the label centered over the valve stem.
My nice new shiney wheels have the DT SWISS logo to the side of the valve hole. Do I line my tire logo to the valve centre / offset rim logo, or, lined up with rim logo / offset the valve.
My OCD has become dual personality.
That's not OCD.
The rules can suck a fat one.
Just stick the tyre on and get on with it.
That's not OCD.
Unless I guess you genuinely believe something bad might happen if it's not correct...
Opposite the logo
I know in the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter, but in any case if it were me, I would line up the left edge of tyre logo with the valve.
Remove the stickers.
It looks best with the logos at opposite ends, I line them up with the valve because it's easier and I'm lazy
Ever since I realised that, despite having been written with tongue firmly in cheek, some poor souls were taking them seriously, I go out of my way to offend the rules. 😈
That's my excuse for wearing any old team kit I can get reduced to buttons in the sales, and I'm sticking to it. I'm not tight, I'm a rebel. 🙂
Send the faulty wheels back

Definitely written with tongue in cheek, however they are funny because they are true! 🙂

You can do it the other way too, following the rules upsets all kinds of folk if you start quoting them e.g:

There is actually a logic to that one though, makes it easy to find the valve.

You can always tell people who don't follow the rules, they tell you about it! Worse than bloody vegans.
That and they spend ages looking at their punctured back wheel before realising the valve is behind the seatstay.

It's on the fricking wheel dude!
Remove decals.
Procure replacement decals.
Mount new decals in line with valve hole.
Mount tyre in accordance with the rules.
If you're gonna do a job do it properly.

Some of them are good rules.
I aim for a razor sharp tanline every year

I cut out the hassle and look there first

Worst.
Justification.
Ever.
Shave vital seconds for your team mechanic i guess...
I'm mormally just happy i got the tyres on the right way round 😆
"It makes it easier to find the valve hole" is a bit terse. What it makes it easier to find is the location of a puncture in a tube (think about it a bit).
So the Rule does not apply if you are running tubeless.
Rule #1 says otherwise

I'd return them as faulty for a full refund. Nothing good can come of using them as they are. I guess you could remove the logo stickers and pretend they were never there. That should make them OK.
Lets face it, these 'rules' were written by people who think cycling UP hills is fun, which tells you everything you need to know about said rules!
(hint, you never, ever, find a 7 year old pedaling UP a hill shouting "Wheeeeeeee" as they do so...)

Are you sure? Were would we be without Rule 12?
Oh, and Rule 5 whilst we're at it.
Yeah **** the rules, rules are for people without imagination or at least the intelligence to know what's good for them and others.
There's probably a little mark to make it easier to know which way around they go - that's worth paying attention to.

Well the logic is more for finding thorns/glass wedged in a tyre;
Find the hole in the tube and it's position relative to the valve, and as you know the tyres orientation relative to the valve (based on the logo being aligned) it makes it a little easier to know where to check...
Of course with tubeless it's just an "aesthetic choice" but certainly not the worst habbit to get into...
You can always tell people who don't follow the rules...

😆
I like the rules. Do I feel bound by them? Not remotely. But they do exist in every walk of life*, and the Velominati simply recognised that and listed them.
*Growing up playing ice hockey, for example, it was virtually imperative that a player have half his jersey tucked into the shorts. No reason for it; that's just the way it was.
Tubeless does make it redundant, but seeing as I'm not going to squirt what appears to be curdled whale sperm into my wheels, I'll stick with valve and logo matching.
But if you really want anal, there's another one. When you're building a wheel, the hub makers name should line up with the valve hole. There was a very good reason for that, but it's also redundant. However I learned to build wheels half a century ago, so I still do it.
A self administered pat on the head for anyone who can give the reason for that one. (Hint - think vintage hubs and tubes)

Aye, but that doesn't give me a great reason for wearing non matching, team kit that I've scrounged in the sales.
But they do exist in every walk of life*
Only for those that choose to recognise them..... (adopts zen like pose) Oooooommmm.
There is a nice bike at work in the shed, its American Classic wheels have a decal stating VALVE positioned by the valve.
I love that the Rules get so many people in such a tizzy.
If you're worried about the rules you REALLY wouldn't have wanted to see my road bike today...Must have broken half of them. It rode nicely though.
Edit...although I quite like the alignment thing but I don't entirely endorse the thorn point, as I only remove one side of the tyre to get a tube out so it's still easy to guess the location.

Oil ports, Woods valves and perishing rubber I do believe sir.

wise words indeed, anything that has reached rule #40 and hasn't finished can **** right off.
tongue in cheek, anally retentive dickwads more like. that website has had a humour bypass.

FTFY. Defintiely in the "they're totally tongue in cheek but it's funny because they're true" camp. Logo and valve alignment looks better. Simple. If you're not bothered by this - and judging by many of the bikes posted on here people really aren't, then fine, but I don't get why there's ever vitriol towards making things look better.
If I were buying a bike it really matters. If a manufacturer can't do it then what else haven't they paid attention to?

Jolly good. Consider your head patted. 🙂
sometimes it can be really hard you think you'll be ok and then.....
a quick pump to mrs antigee's road machine today and I checked yes the valves where aligned correctly to the logos.....I knew that because the fluorescent orange valve caps where oh so easy to spot 🙁 back to school
