Long time since I've ridden in the Dales.
I have ordered the VP book.
What is Littondale like?
Any suggestions for routes to help get the most out of our week?
Halton gill, horse head moor, langstrothdale,up valley to meet pennine way, down to Horton in ribblesdale, bridleway around edge of pen y gent back to littondale. The pen y gent section will be a bit boggy at the moment .
I love Littondale!
We used to ride through the top on the round Pen-y-Ghent route, on our way to Hull Pot. There's also the classic Mastilles Lane dropping into the bottom at Kilnsey Crag, and there's an awesome dh up from Kettlewell and round to Starbottom. Then we used to link into another loop from/to Littondale, either dropping into Arncliffe, or Litton. It was a while ago and I can't remember which, but I'm thinking Arncliffe.
Top routes and big hills being the order of the day. Some of them mentioned above. Rode following few weeks ago.
Arncliffe to Litton, up Cow Close to flanks of Pen-y-Ghent & down to Helwith Bridge. Up Moor head Lane to Stannet & road to Malham Tarn & Mastiles Lane. Up and over Hawkswick Clowder & fast descent to Arncliff Cote. About 27 miles.
Don't miss out The Falcon in Arncliffe:
Shambling landlord who looks like an even more eccentric Griff Rhys Jones.
Old school opening hours.
Look of utter confusion at the serving hatch if you ask for anything but Timothy Taylors Landord.
Beer served straight from the barrel into a jug.
Interior untouched for decades.
A gem of a place ......
Did my silver D of E around there, loads of stuff i wish i'd had my bike for!
Love the TT Landlord.
Will do Pen y gent route
Cam Head and Starbottom Out Moor back to Starbottom any good? Haw Fell into Litton - looks v steep. Should I have a go?
Yes you should! And all the stuff above, the kettlewell route is awesome. It's all local to me and a best kept secret, I rarely see anyone up here, just the way I like it. You have to like old school and big climbs and chunky downhills. Love the dales, and when the weather is crap it's all the better! Gona do whernside in the morning!
Don't miss out The Falcon in Arncliffe:
+1

Click to make bigger. Ace riding, but watch the wet limestone!
Thanks very much
Really looking forward now
Did the UK Fell and Hill relay there (Kettlewell) and it was bloody fantastic. A really superb bit of countryside.
I LOVE Littondale - one of the very best places on Earth. (I may be biased, though - went there a lot as a child)
The ride Ianv suggests is perfect - enjoy. They have done a reasonable amount of work to make it less boggy over the last few years - it will be fine.
The Landlord at the Falcon in Arncliffe is a character - I walked in there earlier in the year with a couple of trans friends and I thought his head was going to explode. He was happy enough once the Tim Taylor's was ordered, though...
