I'll come old fart! If only to re-live our first meeting:

"So long as it doesn't rain"
"Wuss"
"Yeah well you're just obsessed with people's names"
"Grrrr. It's called being friendly you miserable owd bugggggrrrrrrrrrr"

Or something like that. It's obvious we were destined to become friends!

To include all the best combe descents in one on a classic STW social would need a 9am start at that time of year, and that's without the usual faffage and munchin stops.

Route could be..

CPG > gas line > great beer > Concrete block to frog combe green.
Up Horizon then down lower hare knapp(either descent) and down to Hodders, up lady's edge, down weecum, up to beacon hill and down smiths, up to longstone and down WILLYBOYS cleeve, up somerton, CPG for dinner...

Then... down somerton to holford glen for STW's re-enactment of [url=

Bryan Adams, Everything i do..... then up holford combe > ladies or frog combe then classic chimney loop to finish.

Rich, i planned for a Halloween ride last year but it never happened due to the unpredicable weather, if we had a guarantee people would show up, i'd be happy to try and organise one....The date is set though!

It could even be a mulled wine ride (not that I know anything at all about mulled wine rides )

The one with brakes and tyres on.

If you don't mind climbing on the bigger bike, then take that one, but there's nothing that really warrants having that much boing, but comes down to preference as ever.

Whichever makes you smile more...that's the tool for the job me thinks.

rich, Qs in the snow is cr*p

Del ,I was working , honest.

Sharki , what no slaughterhouse combe ? Horizon in the wet ? Best to foget Triscombe loop and stick to the combes? Or start from Lydeard carpark and do triscombe first ?

muddypuddle , there should be tinsel , lots of it.

terrahawk ,I take a pic every four mins so no probs.

The section down through the trees on slaughter house can get ripped to **** by the hunt so i thought to leave that one out....if triscombe is left alone then a few extra combe descents can be thrown in..

Just about to plot some route on tracklogs..so.

Somerton, slaughter house, concrete block, frog, great bear, weacombe, weacombe, weacombe new descent, smiths and willoughbys all looped in without re-doing ascents and going over the same trails twice........

Any others? dibbs trail and the 2 hare knapp descents........jeez, gonna need lots of fuel for this super loop...

yeah but it will be soggy mud by december anyway and worth that little section. All those stream crossing are too good to miss.Oh and the dogpound hill ? How about going around longstone and down the steep one to hodders ? Both all weather trails.

Dog pound, lady edge, ladys combe, horizon, and probably Stert all as climbs as much as Stert is one awesome descent it's also an easy climb out and if slaughter house is to be used and perhaps hare knapp then we need two separate ways out of that area.

How about doing weacombe, then make em sweat crawling back out, then pop out by the picnic bench and lose all that height gain on your new trail, then traverse around the edge and walk up Bicknoller

Indeed, it is wrong, unfortunately due to all the descents being ace, it kinda messes up any plans to get out for each way into the combes there needs to be a way out and sheperds(ladies edge) and stert are the two easiest, dog pound is needed as a way up out of Holford combe...as both frog and ladies combe are southern ascents and frog is another illegal climb..

I'm working on this, but it will certainly be a beast of a ride.

Right hands down cuz i've worked out a quick loop.

Route works out at about 45km(28miles), it goes up and down alot, with about 1500m of ascent and descent.

Descents are.......slaughter house, weacombe, half hitched(knotties trail), stert/somerton, smiths, willoughbys, concrete block, frog and the whole run of holford combe flat out....

Ascents are....sheperds(ladies edge), staple plantation, bicknoller, dog pound, greenway path, part of dowsborough and stert.

The average speed on STW rides are about 3.5 mph, so you'll be riding for about 8 hrs without rest......

Haa haa haa haa, i'm gonna kill us all!!!!

So which descents do you not want to include...

I think I might have left one of my ribs on a root half way down Smith's: (look right just after the lingering smell of cooked brake pads...) if anyone finds it my email is in my profile.

Also I might be up for it if you have a 'slow' group like last time...

did some one mention a slow group ? sounds like a job for me(I was hoping that would be asked).

I went down Smiths today and saw no ribs, garmins or computers, bugger all in fact, not even any fallen branches to pen you in to a eye rattling path down...I's almost go as far as saying it's faster, which isn't such a good thing if you go straight on at the kink right and end up OTB in a wet bog..LOL.

Numbers may dictate if segregation is needed.

If anyone wants a group ride before crimbo, say now!

Last september was awesome and dusty, despite this one starting off err moist, i've a good feeling we're in for another dry spell to and with the bracken dying back, it opens up a few extra choices...woot!

Indeed, this post is for OF's/chipps ride, he must be at work.

Was just stating if anyone wants a group ride before then it can be done, there's a few months to go till december..

If there's enough interest then a new thread can be started, i'm thinking alot of bikes will be going away for the winter! 😉
