I know I've left this way too late. Looking for some inspiration. 21-28 October
Basquemtb is full.
Finale is an option, but not quite feeling it.
Lakes, got a few rides in mind but the lad likes uplift.
Inners uplift, Ben Lomond, then Nevis range ...
Styniog, Dyfi then BPW
Or BPW along with a bit of sport climbing on the Gower.
Cairngorms is always an option, but I reckon too much effort for my son.
Problem is that all these would turn into a stressful sufferfest if I'm not careful. What I really need is an organised trip where I just go with the flow and the day ends at a sensible time rather than after I've wrung the absolute last drop from it at 9pm with assistance from Moon and Exposure .
Any suggestions ( apart from plan earlier)
Switchbacks.
Given the time of year all the lifty lifts will be shut for annual inspection. So you’re looking at road based uplift operators.
finale will be lovely
just down the road is riviera ride for more natural trails
ciclo: Mark might be winding down by then. He might be full you will have to earn descents.
Ciclo maroc: Redouan is out guiding again. Basically he’s said the best way to help them out there now is to get tourism back up and running. It’ll be an adventure that’s for sure.
Madeira. Mate went a coupe of years ago and raves about it. Can’t remember the operator.
Riva del garda?
I think i am going to book into ambleside yha and do loughrigg terrace one day and then either the car ferry and a bimble to wry castle or if they are not too ****ed a bit if tilberthwaite the next.
Mine are 6, 8 and 10 though, so i can tow/give them a push up the hills.
Switchbacks is good. I need to go back.
How old / skilled is your kid?
Inners off piste / Finale can get pretty gnarly. Inners you have Glentress to fall back on and I think the new trails should be open. Most of the local bike shops will do guided rides for you.
Used these guys in Finale who can do same. https://www.rideonnoli.com/
or take a few extra cheeky days while draining a slush fund…

He's reasonably competent.
Now that he's on a proper bike, the growing gap between his level and mine is more evident by the day. I realised this on Harter Fell this year when I shamelessly slotted in behind him to try a particular tricky section.
Not this one, but this makes a better picture...

Agreed. But we went 5 years ago and managed to find plenty to go at.
At this time of year I'd be seconding Finale. We are on our way back from a 8 day stay. Trails were perfect.
When our girls were his age they were always asked where they wanted to go and what they wanted to do.
Luckily for us it usually involved bikes

Riva del garda?
Good shout. Not been to Arco area for almost 30 years. Had a look but can't find any operators going there from Oop north
Tried them, and Atlas and a few others in finale but no spaces. Could of course do DIY but for some reason not feeling it right now.
It's looking more and more like UK. But because of my dithering, my normal partner in crime has already booked something else with his kid.
Hmmm. The ( completely useless as it is 10 days away) weather forecast actually looks excellent.
Very tempted by the Cairngorms ( statement of the obvious really) ... sgur Gaoath (sp) needs another go. And indeed getting Macdui right would be good..... but two people on the plateau in late October ... hmmm
Anyone fancy sharing a taxi from Braemar back to Aviemore for Macdui/ Etchachan ride?
Or perhaps a lakes circumnavigation,...
Hmmmmm
