Can anyone recommend a good route in the ochil hills near Stirling? Techy wild stuff if possible

Cheers

Oh boy. Have a look on Strava for some runs around Dumyat, Mine Woods and Kippenrait Glen. You should be able to link the three up in that order.

You're in for a treat.

EDIT: I think some folk head out from the fox sculpture in Menstrie on a Wednesday evening. Someone should be along soon to confirm or correct.

Did a route last month-

start at parking spot castlehill reservoir in glen devon
through glen quey, past castle campbel down to dollar

from dollar there is a cycle path which will take you to Tillicoultry
from there behind the golf course there is a track that goes through the ochil hills woodland park

follow until you come to silver glen
grit your teeth and follow the track to just before it turns left basically about the end of the track

push up between ben buck and Ben cleuch
Up to Summit of Cleuch
then make your way to Andrew gannel and then kings seat
then descend to Castle campbel
Back along glen quey to start point

A fair bit of ascent and descent,i enjoyed it even though ground was very soft especially coming off cleuch, been frosty so should be ok

Look on OS map it will make sense

For a techy descent the Burnwarroch descent off Dumyat is ace though best left for dry conditions probably.

Ben Cleuch, Andrew Gannel is superb: Climb via Silver Glen, onto Ben Buck. After AG head down Gannel burn into Tillicoultry. Sweet!

Kings Seat, Castle Campbell as above.

Dumyat is a bog-fest at the moment. Avoid until spring unless it's frozen. The lower woods are mint (or were last night at -4C!)

Burnwarroch - yeah, wait until dry:

Alva Glen - as spectacular and as techy as it gets. Enjoy!

Ooh - and one of my favourite routes is across the tops from Silver Glen via Blairdenon to Sherrifmuir Inn. Not overly techy though.

I have some fond memories of times spent in sheriffmuir Inn, as far back as the Andy Robins and Hercules days. That said I do like the dumyat/ Ben cleuch runs.

maddyutah - Between Mickle Corum and Little Corum there's a gate. Turn left and follow the quad track down.
Not technical but fast and fun.

Explore the tracks around the Sherrifmuir Monument on your way down to Dunblane.

Oh - and take a look at the Touch Hills.

Much under-rated. Climb the Gargunnock Hill track, over the top and descend past the Touch reservoirs to Cambusbarron. Two to three hours and rideable in all weathers following shooting tracks.

You can also detour and play in some tanks:

And this is a four-hour circuit with spectacular views. Boggy in places 🙂

I took advantage of the stunning weather today and tried the Silver glen / Ben Cleuch / Andrew Gannel / Gannel burn route. It was very lovely indeed, and extremely cold. The tops were all frozen otherwise I think it might have been a bit of a bog-fest.

I also heard my favourite phrase - "you won't be able to get down that on a hardtail mate" - about Gannel burn.

Thanks for the route suggestions - I'll be back soonish to try Alva glen I think.
