I'm looking to upgrade my frame and forks, I want them to be future proof for at least the next few years (standards move so fast, I know!).

Because of this, I want a frame that's BOOST 148 compatible. All are that I'm looking at anyway.

I have Hope Tech Pro 4 hubs so I know I can get conversions for those—and I'll need the wheels re-dished, I believe.

I recently upgraded to an SRAM NX 11 speed drivetrain (my freehub is the Shimano compatible so 11 speed what as far as I could go).

My crankset is the SRAM NX 1x X-SYNC™ Crankset found here: https://www.sram.com/sram/mountain/products/nx-1x-x-sync-crankset

It states that it's 148 BOOST compatible, but I was under the impression that:

1. The spindle would be too short.
2. The chainline would be off by a few mm because you can't move the chainring and spider is fixed.

Can anyone help me out here? My research is sending me round in circles!!

Thanks in advance.

the 3mm boost offset is entirely in the chainring or the spider, the axle and arms are the same as non-boost. Try it, if it doesn't work then reconsider but it'll probably be fine.

joemmo thank you.

That's some great info. Makes me question if it could be BOOST compatible then, as the spider isn't interchangeable. The chainring is, but surely it needs to be moved outboard 3mm and not in (with some sort of spacers). Or am I wrong there too?

the non boost has a 6mm offset, the boost is 3mm offset, have a read of the PSA Sram X1 carbon crankset £70 post from the other week :0)

The spider on that crankset looks like it isn't removeable - so may be different, as the PSA thread was all about a direct mount crank.

If the spider has the boost offset built in then it could have spacers or an offset chainring to unboost it but not the other way round. I don't know why SRAM is making spidered and direct mount versions of the same crank, DM is less hassle to adjust for chain line.
