Basically I have an on one codeine which comes with a narrow/wide ring and a chain guide. If I remove the guide will I suffer chain loss without a clutch mechanism? Cheers chris

I run 2 1x9 bikes with NW chainrings and no clutch fine.

No problem here either (Superstar NW, Deore 9spd cassette, ancient XTR rear mech).

Depends on you more than the clutch tbh! Narrow/wide ring is doing almost all the work, clutch doesn't make much difference. But some people find they want a device.
