Think has probably been done before, but my search-foo is lacking today.
I recent bought Hope Hoops with ZTR Crest rims for a new bike build - but have been running them tubed.
To go tubeless, it would appear I need Stans Yellow Tape, Valves and Sealant.
But, do I need specific UST/ Tubeless tyres, or will the ones I'm running now be OK? (Continental Mountain King/X-King - wired but tight as hell to get on)
Ta
Anyone??
No you don't need tubeless tyres...just what you've stated: sealant, tape, valves
Only caveat is that some non-tubeless tyres work better tubeless than others
Ta... Hope my current tyres (which were a complete b***h to fit) will do the job then.
Off to order the bits and pieces 🙂
the other thing about non-tubeless tyres run tubeless is that they may need topping up with air and sealant at first as the sidewalls can be a bit porous. Riding the bike helps to make them seal quicker.
they don't advise using WTB TCS tyres. they have a liston their site what fits and what doesn't.
With Conti;
- UST = designed to run tubeless - non-porous sidewalls so don't need sealant (but is a good idea unless you like punctures)
- Protection = "tubeless compatible" - can be run tubeless "officially" but requires sealant as sidewalls are porous. (There is a conti guide to setting up protection tyres tubeless their way on you tube somewhere.)
- Others - you're on your own but might well work.
