Rather than putting my bike on my house insurance, can I actually insure the bike itself no matter where I keep it? I spend my time between my house and my partners, plus the occasional weekend at the parents when I have my youngest. As a result rather than fanny about with various insurers for each property I was wondering if I could insure the bike similarly to how we insure cars - or is that a silly question? =-O

Not necessary in the slightest. Insure it on your house insurance from your home address but make sure it's covered away from the home. Job done.
It's stupidly expensively to insure a bicycle on its own. It costs me £40 extra to insure 8 bikes worth from £700-£2600 on my house insurance, and they are covered no matter where they are.

Who are you insured with? That seems extraordinary cheap for adding that many bikes.
I am paying nearly £160 extra to insure my bikes on my house insurance policy which is more than the house insurance policy itself.
I'm insured with M&S. They have a single item limit of £2000 and only one bike is above that, and that's what the £40 is for. I think they have two different levels on their insurance and the top one automatically covers stuff away from home.
