Has anyone used these to increase bar reach? Any good? Sherpa a bit short.

Bar to increase reach? Do you really mean reach, or are you looking for a higher front end instead perhaps?

Yes bar reach as opposed to frame reach. Increase bar saddle distance without having to set saddle back more or use a longer stem.

I'm trying to figure out what you mean as well TBH. Do you mean mounting then horizontally? Because that's just a whole world of horrible ergonomics.
There's nothing really different about the shape of them to any other bar?

Horizon v2 will give you an extra 9mm or so reach vs a normal shaped 9deg backsweep bar due to the forward offset of the bend.

If you are replacing a bar which is 7deg backsweep for example, the amount of reach you gain is going to be less due to the smaller angle but there is reach to be gained by going from a standard bend 9deg bar to the Nukeproof forward offset one.

If you mean increasing reach with the angle of back sweep then you want the Renthal Carbon Fatbar V2s at 7 degrees rather than Nukeproof at 9 degrees.

I always use Renthals, it does make a difference.

That looks like they've just changed the upsweep a bit then filled in the blanks with marketing?

I’d totally missed that but about V2s, kinda interesting. OP, do you have 9 degree back sweep bars at the moment? If not you’ll not really be gaining anything by the sounds of it. Longer stem would be the easier change to make for the same effect

I have a pair on my Sherpa. I find they do just what Nukeproof say... the bend/sweep is offset and they increase the cockpit by about a cm. There’s a 15mm difference between my Sherpa reach and my FS, and since fitting them, they feel virtually the same

For those who've not seen it or aren't quite getting the question, it's basically just the same as the old Fleegle bars, backsweep costs you a little reach so they add it back in the bar shape to keep it neutral.

Thing is, it doesn't make any difference at all how the grips get to where they are- you could do the exact same with a stem to open up your bar choice

Could you not fit a slightly longer stem? I’m a little confused about how this works.

Fitting a longer stem isn’t doing the same thing as your moving the bar clamp further over the front wheel.

With the bars the clamp stays in the same place but the ends of the bar end up slightly further forward.

“ Fitting a longer stem isn’t doing the same thing as your moving the bar clamp further over the front wheel.”

If the grips end up in the same place and angle relative to the headtube then how they are connected to the steerer is irrelevant (flex aside).

@dhrider

You really need to have a think about what you just said again.

I've gone from horizon to horizon V2 both 38mm cut to 770mm, it worked for me and doesn't feel/steer like I've just put a slightly longer stem on so I'd say its not the same as changing stems.

Think about it. Assuming equal levels of overall resistance to bending forces, all that matters is where the hands are in relation to the steerer tube, that determines the lever and therefore the turning force on the steerer tube. The only thing that fancy backsweeps can do is improve the angle of the hand making it more comfortable.

Just thinking aloud after a family Zoom after a pint and 3 Sloe ports. If you took it to extremes and had the same or even different bars on say the current go to 35mm. stem then put them on 175mm stem or whatever we used to use then you would get a completely different arc (is that what you call it) of turn. So to my my mind stem length does change the feel of a bike. Don't take any notice of me i'm just a senile old 70 year old!

I have them on my Sherpa to help alleviate carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome. They place my hands in what feels like the same place as my previous 7 deg Renthal fatbars but with a more comfortable hand position. Definitely do what nukeproof clain in my opinion and good vfm.

Stem length massively changes the feel of a bike - but only because it moves where your hands are vs the steerer tube.

A 30mm stem will feel exactly the same as a 120mm stem if the latter has heavily swept bars which bring the grips back to the same place as a straight bar on the 30mm stem, if the grips are angled the same.

Yup but that's only half of the conversation- if you replaced a short stem with a really long one, but at the same time replaced your bars with a set that had exactly the same amount of layback as you've added via the stem, your hands end up in the same place, and move through the exact same arcs (because you've not moved the pivot, you've just taken a longer journey to get all the bits where the need to be)

There'll be potential for differences in stiffness and tiny weight distribution changes but that's all.

But still, the bar is neat that it lets you change one thing (sweep angle and therefore hand angle) without changing any other parts or any other dimensions. It's just that there's other ways to do it.

Amazing how many people can't be bothered to take 20 seconds to understand the thing they spent 20 seconds writing a comment about.

FWIW, it seems like an idea so obvious I'm surprised it's not more common. I haven't tried the new ones, but had used V1 Horizon bars and they were great. I'm sure these ones will be also be good.
