I'm thinking of converting my ex721 rims to tubeless and using one of the NoTubes kits. Am I in for a world of pain trying to get this to work, or should it be relatively painless?
Also, do I need to remove the current rim strip? or put the Stans rim strip straight over the top?
I'm running Schwalbe Tubeless Ready tyres (NN/RR) - should they be ok (I'm a tubeless noob)?
Don't bother buying the kit get 1" gorilla tape from screw fix or similar £2.99 some tubeless valves £7-£10 and some sealant. done mine about 4 months ago takes about a hour taking your time and would not look back
I've used the Stan's rim strips and sealant to convert non-UST rims to tubeless for years. I'm using the standard XC rim strips now; I used the Rhyno Lite strips on Rhyno Lite rims in the past.
I would never go back to tubes! In fact, I'm starting to think about how to go tubeless on the fat bike that I ordered!
I've never tried any of the home made methods like a BMX tube or lots of duct tape. May save a few $, but not worth it to me for all of the potential hassles IMO.
Edit - you need some sort of tape or rim strip to protect the Stan's (rubber) conversion strip from spoke ends and such. They usually include strapping tape in the kit for that purpose or you can use what you already have if it is not too thick. I use Ritchey ones.
I've been using the ghetto split BMX tube method with a 721 for a good four years or so now with zero problems thus far.
Stans rim strips are a massive rip of (IMO of course).
As everyone always says on these threads it tyre choice that makes all the difference...
Jo's no flats strips and exo ardents. Went on with compressor. Used stands yellow tape too. Tyres were new fine on the good rim bit of a pain on the dinged one.
