K's forks felt terrible at the start of last weekend. Pushing down in the carpark there was loads of stiction and they weren't smooth at all.
They've not done much mileage since they were last serviced and had been feeling ok. However, seem ok again now. Is the grease/oil likely to have distributed itself around again and they'll be OK or should I strip them down?
been put back together without soaking the foam rings perhaps? Though if they're ok now it sounds like the seals had just drained themselves. I'd leave it, or possibly wipe the stanchions with fox oil, cycle the forks and then wipe them clean again. This'll get oil to the top of the seals.
Invert the bike for 5 minutes, allows oil to move up to the top of the forks and lubricate the foam seals and bushings.
Right the bike and leave it for 5-10 minutes before riding to allow excess oil to return back to the lowers.
They shouldn't be like that imo. Fox's gold oil which should be used to lube the lowers is very viscous and sticky. Maybe someone forgot to put the oil in?
Could be a number of things, best to open them up & have a look.
My money would be on a rolled foam ring catching in the top bush, although could be damper issue.
They got better for a while (or at least they felt ok when i gave them a pump) but this weekend were feeling shit again.
Stripped them down today - lowers off, air damper out. Nothing wrong with the foam rings. Seems to be the air shaft but I couldn’t see anything wrong with it - all the seals were in place and seemed in good condition (theyre only a couple of months old.). No visible damage or wear to the shaft.
however, put it all back together and the notchiness is still there - it feels kind of like a seal is running over a ridged surface.
bump - no more ideas on this?
