Hi all

got a question I hope the collective single track mind can help with.

I’m looking for a new MTB for my 14 year old son and a mate has a good condition 2018 YT Jeffsy CF Pro 27.5

It could be a great bike for him (if the sizing is right) but I need to make a sensible offer that’s not over/under paying. Given that it’s 7 years old I was thinking about £1000.

Any ideas what a reasonable price would be?

Ask your mate what he wants to sell it for, he states a price you either accept or decline / haggle or have things changed now?

Price should reflect that you are his "mate" and an easy sale and no FB marketplace ghosting

My mate sold me a 2018 Canyon Strive for my son a couple of years ago. He really didn't want much, he'd already bought a new bike. I gave him £400 in the end.

Ask your mate what he wants for it, if he says a silly low price, give him a bit more!

Grand is a high end I’d say.

id say nearer 600 quid personally without knowing condition and spec

A couple of friends have this bike, neither have any complaints other than they can't run longer dropper posts.

Do check when it last had a frame bearing change as there's a lot of them and it's not a particularly easy job.

If it's in good condition, frame wrapped with suspension & bearings serviced recently then a grand sounds fair

The stock cassette is a e13 I think, not a standard (needs 2 chain whips to remove) BB maybe similarly non standard.

You'll be his best mate for a while if you give him that!

Go on ebay and search by sold items in the last few months and take the average and make him an offer, otherwise you'll know how good a friend he is when he makes you the offer....

I'd be letting him make the first offer though, people can be funny about money.

Just looked at eBay sold and they seem to be 800-1k

thanks for all the input. Thats helped me work out a fair market price.

Grand seems way too much.

I recently paid £800 for a 2017 Intense Tracer in perfect condition. Similar bike I'd say. On that basis I reckon £800 tops, condition important of course.
