Won't be able to get in there again because of chunky knit jumper wearing, bearded weirdy CAMRA members (and that's just the women!!) queuing up to get served by Lawrence Llewyllyn (sp) Bowen and Catchpole in the CAMRA "Pub of the Year"

My local has a sign up along the lines of:

After much consideration, it has been decided that from now on CAMRA members will be charged considerably more than our regular customers for a pint.

This is due to the rest of us having to put up with their incessant moaning and whinging about all the decent pubs, serving decent ale, closing

If you're that bothered about it, you won't mind. And you could at least contribute towards keeping them open, instead of sitting there nursing a half for an hour!

Does the Camra thing actually mean anything?
Several local pubs seemingly win some sort of "pub of the year" regularly... lots of banner out, all saying similarish stuff.

Don't think so, just gets a mention in their monthly version of Singletrack.

Beer Festivals too, what is the point in buying a half, sipping a bit, if it's half decent bottling it!!! Okay, so you've sampled 15 different beers and got it preserved for time immemorial, whoppy-doo!!!!

Beer festivals are great! The first few beers get the attention they deserve, but by the time I have spent £10 of my beer vouchers they all taste the same and I want a kebab. Cheap, fun and not often beardy.

Downloaded the CAMRA Good beer guide app to my phone in a fit of new phone app enthusiam. It "recommends" 10 pubs within half a mile most of the time in London. Geat, but no comparison/rating, chains included. Doesn't tell me anything more than I knew already!

Thought it would be more discerning.

meh.

Beer festivals are great!

+1. Woking Beer Fest in a few weeks time, always a good one.
