Am up in Alnwick for a week and taking the trail bike with me. Have seen Thrunton has some trails, but wondering if there is much else around that way? Ideally within half an hour of Alnwick.
Can be longer xc loops or steep tech, I'm fine with both! Any help/pointers would be appreciated!
There's not that much MTB near Alnwick. Bewick & Hepburn Moors are often mentioned on here though. Others will be along soon to correct me.
It's a great area for hybrid/gravel bike rides though
Thrunton but Arwain pretty much flattened it and the trails aren’t official so unlikely to be many open.
Rothbury carriage drive easy going pootle.
Alnwinton for big hill rides
Ingram for the same.
Rothbury. I don't know about the mtbing particularly but there is stuff there. Lots of trees down when I was there at the weekend. Some of the obvious stuff was very blocked.
Alwinton has some good stuff - for XC. No idea what state it is in. Not particularly woody so probably clear.

If you can find it online check out Derek Purdy's mtb routes book for Northumberland. As @Drac says Alwinton, Ingram, some epic moor type rides in the cheviots...but if its wet tie your shoelaces tight...the moors/clarts have ways of stealing your shoes.

No idea what you mean. (photo taken YONKS ago!
Salters Road.
Thrunton took a massive battering and is officially closed. Forestry are asking people to stay away - hopefully machines will be in there soon to clear it up. It's a real mess!
Thanks all for your help, looks like I'll avoid thrunton, appreciate the heads up.
Plenty of fabulous riding around Wooler or perhaps Hethpool up in them their cheviots.
Just got home from Alnwick, was up there for a week on a family holiday. Didn't take the bike but went on a few walks. There were a lot of trees down blocking paths. So bear that in mind.
I live in the Rothbury area so can tell you that, as many have said, Thrunton is closed and I don't just mean a few twigs lying about - it's impassible. It took a right hammering from storm Arwen and hasn't been touched by the Forestry Commission so it's a no go.
Simonside and Harwood forests are officially closed however the fireroads were cleared very quickly by the FC and providing you aren't blatantly putting yourself or others in danger where the damaged trees are concerned the FC staff will turn a blind eye to you riding the fireroads (I know this from first hand experience).
Alwinton and areas towards the border are generally passable but there's still storm damage up there which hasn't been cleared so expect your route to be blocked or altered.
Is the Coquetdale - Otterburn ranges route affected by storm damage?
I was hoping to go up there in May
No, it should be Ok there isn’t many trees there and has the might of the military behind it. Obviously as ever check to see if it’s open and not being used for live firing.
Arwen’s aftermath is eye opening, I was up the valley for hours that night trying to get to a call. Certainly a night to remember.
