Right,

Have an extra weeks holiday at the end of August - any ideas for a decent location within a couple of hours drive of Calais?

Cheers!

Paul

Suisse Normande would be a good shout.

Staycation? 😀

We were in Gerardmer - for a wedding, rather than for a mtb destination. Took bikes, stayed for a week, did some nice routes. Some nice bimbles, and some pretty steep tech too.

The main Vosges NP is further south, there's been a bit of chat on here about it - worth doing a search.

Sorry I can't be more help - bikes were a bonus add-on to that trip, rather than a focus.

Surprisingly enough, there is some cracking biking around Paris. The forests of Fontainbleau to the south-East (famous for bouldering) and Rambouillet to the south-west are full of techy singletrack stuff. OK, it's not the Alps, but there is definitely a week's worth of entertainment with the fleshpots of the Big Smoke not far away.
