The Mrs and I are staying in Kirkby Stephen on Saturday night and we will* be riding on Sunday. Kinda fancy something over the western side or Howgills maybe, as we've ridden in the Reeth area a couple of times.
Anyone got an favourites to suggest or want to meet up for a bit of a ride? We're thinking a decent ride...
We'll not be starting particularly early anyhow 🙂
*Will be riding, as determined by SWMBO, who doesn't have another weekend free to go riding till February
There's stuff around Sedbergh and Dent but a lot of it will be getting boggy now - it was touch and go a month ago and after the recent deluge ...
The best route round there would be Bowderdale but again the bottom end of that will be submerged now.
There's a network of bridleways west of Kirkby Stephen towards Orton, once you are on the fell it's a limestone base so quick drying. There's a shortish route in the Vertebrate Dales North guidebook but possible to extend it.
In the Dales themselves: park up at Dent; head over Great Wold to Ribblehead; take the road towards Hawes and after a couple of Km turn right on to the Cam Road (obvious Roman straight track); up this to top; turn left and down Pennine bridleway to Newby Head; keep on PBW to top of Arten Gill; down Arten Gill then back along road to Dent (the road on south of dale is quieter)
Cheers. I'm hoping that with the frost on Saturday night, Sunday is going to leave the mud and bogs hard-frozen!

Gotta love the optimism!
I must admit, from there I'd go north or south Lakes, or Swaledale again rather than trying to force a route in the Howgills, which will definately be a squelchfest.
How about reeth? Good routes that are pretty stable all year round.
I wonder if Reeth and reeth are the same place 🙄

You could go Skipton direction. Again in the VG books there are some routes round there and they tend to have a bit more hardcore under the bridleways.
