Any recommendations for off piste in North Wales around Bangor, Snowdonia etc?

Bethesda way looks ok with Braichmelyn trails but wondered if there was anywhere better or more suitable for unguided stuff.

Thinking Barry Sidings, Risca, Wylie sort of grades for those that know them, so steep and techy rather than big features

Also Clegir road in Llanberis

Thanks.

Moel y Ci forest - Saw this related to Trail Collective (and Braichmelyn) but couldn't work out if it was more than just the old DH track? Assume so though!

There's a fantastic steep path off the very top of Moel-y-ci.

Ride up the main path from the White house, go left at the top to the gate. Do a U turn to the left and go up to the top. This path is fun to ride back down but carry on over to the Trig point. From here there's a tiny path down the "front" of the hill. The top section is mega steep but it becomes ridable a little way down. It's very good.

When you get to the bottom of this ace steep path, you can either turn right and go up in to the woods to explorer the downhill tracks the kids have made over the years. Or go left , through the gate and right to go down to the road or left to go back up the main path.

I lived 3 miles from Moel-y-Ci as a kid. Was up there almost every night after school on my Marin Bear Valley 🙂

Have ridden each turn but never in one take! One day! Just to add that this is very cheeky riding and not agreed/maintained terrain like the trails in S.Wales. No groups, please.

Moel y Ci forest itself (very close to the peak that JonJones mentions) is easier to navigate than Braichmelyn (which is very much follow your nose and see what happens, and even then stuff will be missed). It's way less cheeky and has fun stuff in there

Dinorwic slate mines also good: up to the reservoir from near Moel y Ci, down the fast bit and when you reach the old storage buildings and clearing area, point downwards at the pedestrian gate. This will bring you to the old hospital, from which you can climb back up or explore the lake side that also has some spicy bits (lake side best ridden out of holiday season).

It's only 2 of us. Happy to explore trails in the woods if it's worth it. Won't be in ebikes though so not too much unnecessary climbing 😀
