I have an visit to a site in North Wales this week, near to Denbigh, so may have a couple of hours on an evening to kill. Is it worth taking the bike and heading to Mold or Pentre Halkyn for an evening spin?
Llandelga is a short drive away. Thats your best bet if you can get away in time.
do they close gates at night?
They open late on a Wednesday at Llandegla.
the likes of the Clwyds from Cilcain, near Mold will require a gps track if you’ve never been before.
Clwydian range is easy from Denbigh - try this one:

(Or any of the others on his web site).
There's riding around Halkyn, but you need to know where to go to get the most out of it (down the track past the 3rd tree type of thing, rather than easy to follow routes).
Degla gates still open till 21;00hrs
how long does it take for an average lap of the red at llandegla (i now know its about 15km). dooable in an hour/ hr/half? Get there for 6, away by 8..
easy doable in an hour n half, but its a shame to miss out on the black bits while your there.
park at The Plough and ride up in / out of the forest via Offa's Dyke
ed; the plough has been renovated into a hotel so best ask permission... car park is massive so cant see a problem. you can still chuck a few quid in the pay machine when you pass through the degla carpark if you dont wanna go to hell...
Penmachno won't be open Friday, oh and possibly expect Antur to be busy - Welsh Rally is on. Were off to Slate Mountain Friday, pits area Saturday, and Llandudno Sunday.
If I can collect my son from college early enough, also the Tir Prince stage on Thursday.
haha, one of the sites is in Clocaenog, im meant to be there on Wed, may just hang around until thursday morning for a bit...

Threre is a layby on the main road closer to the trail head on North side you can use. You then push up a footpath that goes from the road and crosses the trail.
Ex Mold/Halkyn resident here.
As tillydog says, take a look on Flattyres MTB. If you go on Facebook Colin of said site runs weekly evening rides. Great pace and very friendly.
Take the bike and go and explore Halkyn but be prepared for sheep poo aplenty!! I used to be able to string a couple of hours out of a ride around there.
The clwyydian range has lots of bridlepaths to explore. Again try the chaps at NWMBA on Facebook for route advice. We used to run Wed night evening rides from Mold but I think they have died a bit of late.
Best bet would be Colin at Flattyres tho....
Oh and it will be wet. It's always wet there....😂

Im coming down from Scotland, we do quite a good line in wet up here as well. 🙂
Another vote for a ride in the Clwydians, see http://www.ridenorthwales.co.uk/
Be aware there are major works underway in Clocaenog forest. I've been there twice in the last two weeks, and while the weekend wasn't too bad I went on a tuesday morning and there were lorries and diggers everywhere. There are keep out signs but I went through anyway and nobody tried to stop me. The grassy bridleways are being turned into 20 foot wide crushed gravel paths. Maybe just for the rally, but there are signs about a wind farm being built as well.
You can ride right out of Denbigh up onto the Clwyds. Up to the Jubilee tower on tbe top of Moel Famau if you fancy a big climb. Failing that you can hook up with some of the routes on the ride the clwyds site.

Yup, very aware of those works 🙂
Yup, very aware of those works
So you ignored the signs too?
If going to degla just drive up world's end and go across the boards on Offa's dyke straight onto the top of the trails. Doesn't matter what time you are there then. Plus the descent back to the car is good fun.
So you ignored the signs too?
not exactly - those works were the reason for my visit to this area.
