Going to be in Norfolk over New Year, not far inland from Wells Next The Sea, is it worth taking the off road bike at all? Or should I just take the roadie?
Thetford isn't too far away and is great for a winter blast.
lovely spot.
Pints of Adnams beer and dressed crab. Yummy.
Hunstanton to Burnham market, marches and windmills.
TBH I wouldnt even bother taking a bike. Lots of coastal walking.
Have a good one.
Having ridden at Thetford for the first time in ages this w/e +1 for Stoner's idea.
Oh no, really, I'll need to take a bike...Dunno if I can be arsed to drive to Thetford, I was thinking more locally.

you probably still have your comfort blanket too dont you? 😉
You haven't met the people I'm going on holiday with...
Anyway, what's the matter with binkie the blankey?
I've met Mrs C and the kids and theyre lovely. You shouldnt talk of them like that nick!
(and mine [s]is[/s] was called Fumpie)
Ahh the land of big skies, I spent my summers on the beaches of North Norfolk.
My granny lives in Burnham Market - lovely part of the world. I would only take the road bike for some gentle rides through the Lanes.
as stoner said - Adnams, Mussels, etc etc, some great local food.
Wehn I visit the mother-in-law in Cromer I take the road bike. Not found anything I want to ride on the MTB but then again i haven't looked that hard as I have enjoyed the road along the coast.
singlespeed
Spent a lot of summer holidays in Wells when I was a nipper.
I'd say great road riding, poor offroad - its mostly field edge stuff. 'crosser might be fun if you've got one so you could mix and match the road and offroad easily, but I certainly wouldn't bother with any kind of "big" bike.
As Stoner says - good coastal walking though.
I sort of suspected it was pretty much "Go along that field of cabbage, turn left at the field of radish" sort of riding...Roadie it is then, I reckon.
I'll be doing all the walking stuff, but one of our party is a "larger" lady and doesn't like/cannot go that far, and the other family have very young children, mine can/will walk all day, but it's unfair on every-one else, a quick 25 mile blast every morning seems just the thing...
I'm also off to East Anglia over the New Year - however further round the coast down in Aldeburgh. I shall be taking a Road Bike to try and work off some of the food & alcohol.
Theres a bit of off-roading on the North Coast. Its not too exciting, but will allow you to escape the eating/drinking for a bit.
Non-biking wise, I can thoroughly reccomend going over to Horsey. Theres a breeding colony of the seals there. they're quite tame and inquisitive, search on Flickr for lots of pics.

Take the MTB, plenty of riding out at the coast, Pretty Corner, Sheringham Country Park, Bacton Woods, Kelling Heath more than you'd realise.. of course plenty of good road riding as well, ride one of next years Tour of Britain stages!
Horatio - If your going to Aldeburh then i think Tunstall & Rendelsham Forests are worth a visit with the MTB, some nicely made trails.
Oh and "The Lighthouse" resturant is worth a visit.
I say all this in case you've never been there before 😕
but one of our party is a "larger" lady
taking your car keys nick?
If your in Aldeburgh check out the Butley Oyster just down the road. Well worth a visit.
Oooh, I'm on that video..!
I'm bit late to the party ...
I'm in Wells for christmas. I now live in Scotland but Wells is where I'm from and it's where I first got into mountain biking.
I had a spin out in the snow yesterday - down the sea bank to the beach then four miles of tracks through the pinewoods, across the dunes to Gun Hill and more sea bank by the marshes to Burnham Overy Staithe then after a few road miles it's back through Holkham park around the lake. I then went on the coast path heading east beside the marshes. You can continue offroad on this path for seven miles before you get to Blakeney.
If you are near Wighton there is an offroad section of a sustrans route running three miles down to Wells. The coast offers some interesting stuff - coming down through Sheringham Park and riding the clifftop is really nice.
It might seem like there is a feeling of making do - but there is an element of that where ever you ride.
One of the best things this time of year is experiencing the wintering geese flying over the town at dusk to overnight on the edge of the marshes. Yesterday I heard the sound of wings five minutes before I saw them. They come in low in waves of skeins gabbling away - forty thousand I'm told. It really is something to see.
Let me know if want any info on where to ride.
