Just received this from CRC which they describe as TLR. But it's not according to the Schwalbe site.
Can I still mount it tubeless safely? (on new DT1900)
Thanks
maybe.. maybe not
but if its not what the listing says it is.. i'd be getting it swapped out.. as soon as you mount it and chuck sealant in it it's yours permanently
Have a read of the reviews on CRC. I've been running Schwalbe All round non tubeless for around 3 years tubeless ( well 2 sets of the same tyre 40mm &35mm). I bought them from Merlin after reading loads of reviews on there of other people using them tubeless. These run at around 40 &50 psi, so your fatterer ones might be better as lower pressure..... or maybe not. Maybe just send them back as it sounds like they are at fault.
Caveat: I'm using them on rims designed for tubeless.
I've converted a lot of non-tubeless tyres over the years, using ghetto conversions with liquid latex sealant. Results vary a lot. At worst, you can get them to seal but it takes a week or two for all the pores in the sidewalls to seal up - you can literally see the sealant oozing out the sidewalls. If they were advertised as tubeless ready, I'd send them back.
I ran wire beaded Schwalbe CX Pros tubeless on a single speed mtb for cyclocross. This was on Stans tubeless rims with all the tape and valves. At low pressures of cross and mtb it’s fine. At high pressures, no. Mind, it took a lot of sealant to finally seal the sidewalls. But never let me down. Mount them and see if they seal. You don’t need to add sealant and you’ll soon spot the air leaks if any. If all good, add some sealant and you’re good to go.
Most quality tyres will work out just fine, the beads are usually a nonissue for mtb use (essentially any well made, correctly specced bead will work out) so it's mostly about whether the tyre will actually seal with sealant.
Question i guess is how good are Performance mtb tyres now. They used to be absolute shit tbf but that's pre-addix, if it's actually the same rubber then they ought to be decent at least.
I've been running cheap 35mm schwalbe smart sam tubeless for years with no issues. A 2.6" tyre will be fine.
But it’s not according to the Schwalbe site.
What does it say on the sidewall? It might be some OEM specials?
I thought Addix were the fancier Schwalbe tyres and Performance are the cheap ones? Looks like they've messed up the description.
I've run performance tyres tubeless in the past and the sidewall was way too porous but that was a Racing Ralph
Used to run non TR maxxis tubeless for years with no problem on ghetto rims. I believe TR is about the bead design so they hook up with TR rims without the need of a tube to keep them in place.
Think it depends on the combination of tyre and rim on how much success you'll have but if everything is TR it's more likely to hold and not burp while riding. May also depend on your weight and how aggressive a rider you are.
Though since going everything TR I've found it's a lot harder to get tyres off the rim.
OP here. Thanks for the tips. I was going to send it back but with the CRC situation I'd rather keep it and sell it on if needed.
Anyway, I was bored so I put a tube in it overnight and then tried to inflate it tubeless with a track pump with little hope.
But it came up and seated all on its own. 100ml of sealant and no leakage whatsoever...
I have now ordered another one from Velozone at £25 for the rear...
