I’ve had the couple of pairs of Sugoi MTB shorts for nearly a decade. They are great, but knackered. I’ve bought several new shorts from MTB brands and I hate them all! Too big, too baggy, awkward pockets, uncomfortable….   I just want fairly regular pair of shorts made from tough material with regular pockets and regular fit that are comfy on the bike. Is that too much to ask?!

I was thinking maybe some hiking shorts might do the trick? Any reccomendations?

I bought some Montane shorts in Go Outdoors last summer and they’re the right amount of stretchy, lightweight and long enough for biking.

Can’t remember the model of shorts though

I bought a pair of Showers Pass gravel shorts for the same reasons.

Just long enough to meet knee pads and fit snuggly without being too tight.  Highly recommend them

Sounds like what you want are 'gravel' shorts I think Endura do a GV range, Altura and Madison probably do some, and I'm sure Assos/Rapha will happily relieve you of a vast sum of cash for some.

I've a pair of Sweet Protection Hunter Light shorts - simple with just two pockets, elasticated belt, stretchy and "just right" compared to the flappy, baggy, over detailed and tooooo many pockets of many other MTB shorts.

My most worn shorts though are Northwave - again, just two pockets, stretchy, button closer no real other details. Ace comfy.

My son has a pair of Galibier Gravel shorts he swears by - I'm buying a pair in the future. Again, just simple, stretchy and light. Close cut, but not so it restricts.

My go to pair of shorts are a pair of Mission Workshop Traverse  I bought them maybe 8-10 years ago, and apart from a bit of wear on the seat, they're good as new, and the design hasn't changed in all that time, so they must be doing something right. Very comfy, very lightweight, couple of thigh pockets just big enough for your keys and phone

The other pair I use most frequently are Ground Effect Supertankers, very tough, very hard wearing, couple of nicely placed deep pockets and the front, and a stretchy band across your kidneys so they stay in place, and you're not constantly hoiking them up or having to adjust them . A bit too warm for the very hottest summer months though

Don't bother with Endura in my experience, oddly shaped, weird pockets, too flappy. Last year I rode most in a pair of £8 'sports' shorts from Primark that have an elasticated waist and a built in canvas belt, two normal pockets with a zipped section concealed in the one.

I struggle too and find most MTB shorts far too big and too long. Endura Humvee shorts worked well for me in XS. Normal length instead of crazy long MTB shorts length.

crazy long MTB shorts length.

i wish most were longer. i dont like short shorts. most mtb shorts are too short and i`m left with a idiot gap between shorts and pads.

i`ve some sun valley shorts i bought in a shop in Zermatt about 20yrs ago which i love. but they are getting on a bit!

Just bought some Sportful Giara shorts that are exactly as you describe.   Not very baggy but very stretchy and very comfortable.

I'm with birky, decathlon shorts.

Light and dry really quickly

I ditched baggy MTB shorts years ago and just go for endura xtract gels, the less material flapping around the better.
